Lol you guys are hilarious, and right on the money.

Good trade for both teams IMO. Sacramento basically tricked Artest into picking up his option and then dealt him for Donte Greene ( could be a star ) Bobby Jackson (fan favorite) and a 1st round pick, I dont know how some of you people are calling that nothing.

Assuming Artest does not do anything crazy (60% chance in my books) then this deal should work out for the Rockets aswell, at least get them past the first round for once, maybe further.

I think he really has a mental problem and needs treatment for it. My favorite was when he was a rookie in Chicago. He went to Circuit City and applied for a job, just to get the employee discount on the latest things.

Lol, I hate Artest, but thats pretty damn funny that he did that.

I heard Steven A. Smith say today that this deal is a total steal for Houston and it will make them a Top 2 team in the West.... well, with Steven A. Smith saying that, i think it's fair to say now this will turn out as a disaster for Houston.

hahahaha i totally remember that. I remember on the application he wrote he is current job is "Professional basketball player" and then he wrote down how much he made because it asked him. LOL

Stephen A. Smith is also on the record saying the Nuggets would win the West last season. I hate that guy. I'm not sure about top two because its so hard to gauge that sort of thing, but I will say that they are one of the four Western Conference teams that has a legit chance to win the title, along with the Lakers, Hornets, and Spurs.

I guess this means either Battier or Artest is going to play a lot of 4.

Been reading the Rox forum...

Post#29 » by writerman » Thu Jul 31, 2008 5:44 pm

and they are celebrating like they just clinched the title next year.

First of all, I have nothing aginst the Rockets and don't want to rain on their parade.

Byut it seems to me they are like a lot of Pacer fans were about Artest--entranced by the talent to the degree that they defended him far, far, far, too long.

I hope the Rox are calculating that despite the guy's serious talent, he is a total idiot and IMO is as likely to ruin their team as lift it to the next level.

Hope I'm wrong, but I don't think this leopard is ever going to change his spots. He may have been (relatively) quiet in Sactown, but that IMO doesn't mean he's learned his lesson but rather that another eruption of idiocy is overdue.

He was never quiet in Sactown though. It was just overlooked because the Kings have been horrible. He still practices when it is convenient, even though he is dedicated when on the court. The dog and kid's mother issues backup your view.

I agree that he is due for a major eruption. As the pressure gets higher, the more likely we see a major breakdown. It is someone else's problem though.

I can't believe that Sacramento got this much value though. Donte Green AND a future 1st round pick? I'd have thought it would be one or the other, but certainly not both. I'm honestly assuming that that 1st round pick has some pretty heavy restrictions on it that would likely turn it into a future 2nd round pick or a cash payout.

Seriously though, look at it from our perspective. This is probably the last year to see the T-Mac and Yao tandem together if they flame out in the playoffs again as our GM has hinted at during this offseason. We have absolutely nothing to lose. This is an all in move with little risk, but high reward. Nobody on the team other than Yao and Battier have more than 2 years left on their contracts with 3. T-Mac's only has two years left and Ron has 1 unless they resign him so if this fails, they can just blow it up and start over beginning with the 2010 free agents that everybody is creaming their pants over. You add a great defender and capable offensive weapon to a team that won 55 games last year with Yao missing a significant portion of that by giving up a player who was not a part of that and was doubtful to recieve any meaningful playing time this season, a guy who the team openly acquired last trading deadline to be used as trade bait, and a low draft pick. I think the deal is good for Sac as well considering he wasn't coming back after this year anyways, but this was definitely a risk worth taking for the organization when you consider the circumstances. So yes, we are pretty stoked about adding a talent like Artest to an already formidable squad without giving up anything from the current team as well as having the option of walking away from him if this fails.

I hate Ron Artest as much as anyone, and I can even see the reasoning for this deal for Houston. If he had 2 or 3 years left on his deal, Houston passes. Artest is capable of focusing for one year (especially if he wins a title...then it turns out he was the missing link and he can command big money in free agency next season). I think if the Rockets flame out in the first or second round though...that team gets blown up. Honestly, I'm not a big T-Mac fan, I dont trust Yao's health, and I'm still a little skeptical of Alston at the point, so I think Houston needs the perfect storm to win a title.

Maybe so, but how many people were even putting Houston and title in the same sentence prior to this deal? Not many if any and that is the difference between the Rockets prior to and post trade. At least now, people at least consider it an option. Coming out of the West is no easy task with the Hornets, Lakers, Spurs, and Jazz to name a few. If there is a guy out there that you can trade for without tearing into your core that you feel can put you over the hump, no matter how small that chance may be, you do it.
