What Will They Do? (#2 - Josh McRoberts)

Post#1 » by count55 » Mon Aug 4, 2008 4:37 pm

This is going to be the second in our series of projections and discussions about all of our players this year. Essentially, we'll go through all 15 Pacers (I'm excluding Droopy) and talk about our expectations. Each poster will cut and paste form below and fill it out, adding their reasoning at the bottom. The reasoning is the most important, as it will help the conversation.

The first five guys will go up today, and they will be the fringe players. Then will come the rotational players, then we'll get to our key players. If you're looking to do a little research on the guys, I'd suggest BBR as the best statistical site.

So, here we start with:

Josh McRoberts

Games Played:
Games Lost To Injury:
DNP-CD's:
Minutes per Game:
Points per Game:
Rebounds per Game:
Assists per Game:
FG%:
3FG%:
FT%:
Other Key Stats (can be Steals, Blocks, TO's, A/TO ratio, etc.)

Reasoning/Synopsis: Describe why you think this player will provide these numbers. What will his role be? What's his best-case? What's his worst-case?

Lets get started.
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

Should I guess the numbers I think he will have as a Pacer, or as a Mad Ant? (God I love that team name) :P

I think it's really up in the air right now as to whether McRoberts will be on the team at all. If we buy out Tinsley, or if we do some sort of trade where we send out more guys than we bring back, then his chances of being on the team this season will be pretty good I think, since he does have a guaranteed contract.

If, however, Bird refuses to buy out Tinsley and we still have sixteen guys under contract on opening night, then someone will have to be cut, and McRoberts is the most likely candidate.

Games Played: 61 12
Games Lost To Injury: 0
DNP-CD's: 21 70
Minutes per Game: 10 3
Points per Game: 5 2
Rebounds per Game: 4 1
Assists per Game: 1 0
FG%: 51%
3FG%: 25%
FT%: 55%

I sincerely hope McBob does not end up playing many minutes for us. I don't like him. However if this is the roster we go with for the season (RED) then I think he'll at least have to play a role on the team. If we manage to trade for another PF then (Blue) hopefully he'll be playing scrub minutes at best.

McRoberts looked like a top 15 pick at one point, i think he is a guy who shoulda stayed in school for a yr of 2 longer. He won't play much

Minutes per Game: 7
Points per Game: 2.5

I'm not sure about McRoberts...he's probably the highest motivated player on the team to do well because of playing in front of his hometown friends and family...he loves the uptempo running game...he's got a very good shooting touch...and he's got size. He's also got an awesome mentor in Big Smooth. Sam Perkins is a perfect teacher for him...should help develop his technique and confidence. His favorite song is probably by Toby Keith... "What Do You Think of Me Now". Anything's possible with a few years of maturing and a desire to improve his game.

be the answer to a trivia question - who was the only Pacer sent to the D-League.

Games Played: 55
Games Lost To Injury: 5
DNP-CD's: 32
Minutes per Game: 10
Points per Game: 4.0
Rebounds per Game: 2.0
Assists per Game: 0.5
FG%: 55%
3FG%: 0%
FT%: 65%
Steals per Game: 0.2
Blocks per Game: 0.6

McRoberts will most probably do everything to impress Obie and the Indiana people, after all, this is a dream come true for him. This guy's got talent and a decent body. But i'm thinking maybe he's still relying on his collegiate style of play, his game needs to mature.
I expect McRoberts to fully utilize every minute that will be given to him. But I'm not expecting a lot. Just his readiness and determination to prove himself.
