Heat sign Jamaal Magloire

Ira Winderman | South Florida Sun-Sentinel wrote:The Heat added to its depth at center Friday by agreeing to terms with free agent Jamaal Magloire.

Although terms were not immediately available, Heat President Pat Riley said earlier in the day the team was looking for a player willing to take the veteran's minimum.

While the Heat has depth at center, its starting job remains in flux.

Not a particularly noteworthy signing, and I realize the Heat's center position is weak, but it could support the idea that Blount or Haslem are on their way out in the near future.

Blount and Haslem will make $13.9 million this year. Tinsley and Shawne will make $8.2 million. The closest we could come would be throwing in Foster, and I really don't think that's a good idea. However, if we add Murphy instead and they add Banks it would work. They wouldn't do that, though. The salaries just don't match up to make any sort of a deal with Miami.

As to the topic, Haslem is a PF and was being shopped because they got Beasley. Blount is as good a player as my grandmother and makes considerably more. I don't think the signing of Magloire has anything to do with either being moved.

After hearing about all the Tinsley trade ideas, this one sounds interesting. I'm not a huge fan of really getting any of Haslem, Blount or especially Banks. But I know, getting rid of JT is goal number 1 right now. So I was wondering, if something like this happened, how long do these guy's contracts go until? 2 more seasons? 3? Does Banks play the 1 or the 2? I've heard he's a good defensive player but didn't get on Obie's good side in Boston. I have to admit not actually seeing enough of him play to make a good judgement on him...

Unfortunately....this just lessens the hope of us moving Rasho and Tinsley to the Heat for Blount+Banks.....if there was any hope at all.
