Miami ponders deal for Tinsley

Fast breaks: Miami pondering deal for Tinsley

With the Heat on the lookout for a point guard, Jamaal Tinsley apparently is one of their prime candidates. Ira Winderman's blog in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, suggests the deal could get done for Marcus Banks but would not happen if the Pacers held out for Udonis Haslem. The thing is, while Haslem could be acquired in a one-for-one deal, Miami would have to throw in another player to make the salaries work for a Banks deal. The Pacers could be understandably reluctant to take on any more guaranteed contracts, given they currently have 16 -- including three veteran point guards. Miami's other option appears to be Stephon Marbury, should the Knicks opt to waive him, as is being reported as a strong possibility in New York.

When wuill the saga end? Any truth to this?
I honestly would rather buy out Tinsley then trade for Marcus Banks, he is horrible and cant stick anywhere. Miami has only rookies and unproven at the point, yet Banks gets no run. Albatross contract too.

So you're saying you'd rather pay the huge contract of a player who will not play at all for us and is a bad influence than the smaller contract of a guy who wouldn't play much?

Yes, I am. I would much rather buy out Tinsley then trade for a guy with similar contract, who is not near the player Tinsley can be from a pure basketball standpoint. Marcus BAnks cant even crack a starting line-up where the available choices at PG are : a rookie, a D-league, and a non-drafted player.

Yes as much as people hate Tinsley, I can't stand Banks even more

Who says he is a bad influence? We are talking about grown azz men. What Daniels or Jack, or Williams did, is a reflection on their charcture, Tinsley is not some mob ringleader. He doesn't make descisions for grown men.

With Indiana's Jamaal Tinsley, the situation is pretty basic. If the Pacers are willing to take on Marcus Banks, a deal quickly could be consummated. If the Pacers remain focused on Udonis Haslem, the conversations will remain cursory.

With New York's Stephon Marbury, the issue is a bit more clouded. Unlike Indiana, which insists it will not buy out Tinsley at anything short of pennies on the dollar, New York apparently is moving closer to an outright release of Marbury, at least that's the latest from The New York Times.

If Marbury is waived, the Heat would be first in position to make a waiver claim, because of its league-worst 2007-08 record. Of course, lacking the cap space or financial interest in such a move, the Heat, like each of the other 28 remaining teams, would have to wait until Marbury clears waivers.

IMO, the Heat 1st option is Marbury because of contract considering Riley publicly said that he is leaning toward the cap space for 2010.

If the Pacers really like to dump Tinsley, they better make the deal now before the Heat decides to take on Murbury. If a scenario of Marbury becomes a FA and the Heat didn't signed him, likewise Miami and Indiana didn't come to terms with a deal of Banks and Tins, then consider Tins to Miami trade is not going to happen.

Assuming Indy can't stand Banks too, isn't it better to buy out his contract compared buying out Tins contract?

Except, we'd save at least $9 million in buying out Banks' much smaller deal than Tinsley's much larger deal.

I'd do a Tinsley for Banks plus minuscule filler if possible in a second. Maybe we could simply use Banks in a situational role as a defensive stopper for only defensive possessions. Or, we could just bench him.

So once you're a grown man other grown men have no influence on you? I'm not talking about what they do off the court, I'm talking about Tins being one of the laziest players to ever play the game. Work ethic is contagious, whether good or bad. Also, as Scoot has said, we would save considerably by buying him out. We can't even consider how good Tins is compared to Banks, we have to consider what Tins would do for us compared to Banks and since we know Tins won't play at all the worst we get is a wash. Banks is fast enough to defend any PG in the league. I'm not saying he can, but he's fast enough. That in itself is enough for me. You can't teach speed.

Like they said the main problem is that Tinsley for Banks doesn't work from a numbers standpoint. Si they would need to send back filler. However there's no reason we cant send back filler as well. That way we dnt have to cut anyone from the roster.

P.S.
Saying you would rather pay Tinsley to sit at home and pay him more money than to have Banks sit the bench and pay him less is just being ignorant. Hell if you hate him that much you could still make the trade and buyout Banks for less than you would have to Tinlsey. Better or not Tinsley is not playing for the Pacers. We might as well save some cash.

Got to disagree with that my friend. Tinsley showed up in great shape last year and started off with a bang, then of course he got injured. I dont think it's fair to label Tinsley like that. Injured yes, LAZY NO.

His day to day injuries lasts months at a time.

He's in the game for the first 3 weeks, and then he gets back in the mood of only playing the few plays in a game that he wants to. Then again, he's still on the court for the plays he doesn't want to play.

Its the Heat who should be given an incentive and not the Pacers. Cook is not a give away.

as ive posted in other boards were i have suggested a variation of this trade my views on cook were wrong. if you have another filler we ould use that would be fine. but all your small contracts cant be traded until dec 15

I really think the two teams could work something out. Some combination. Bottom line, we need a better PF, you need a better PG. Whether its draft picks, additional players etc, the key players would be Haslem and Tinsley.

It would take a lot of negotiating, but it seems a mutually beneficial trade is not out of the realm of possibility.
