Stephen vs Joey... The Great Debate

Post#1 » by andrew2good4u » Wed Dec 3, 2008 12:35 am

Hello everyone..
Raps fan here. Many of us Raptors fans think Joey Graham doesn't get a fair chance out here and I just wanted to know what you guys thought of Stephen Graham compared to Joey.

Who is better?
Joey or Stephen Graham

I guess I've never seem Joey play.

But there isn't a lot to say about Stephen, he almost never play. There are some game that he shots well, but it's inconsistent. And I think he could be a better defender since he's very athletic...but maybe he isn't so smart

I'm ok with him being our 13th man, though...

Neither one should be playing much.
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

They are both equally stupid on the floor, and equally inconsistent. But i would have to give Joey the edge since he has a little bit better at creating his own jump shot off the cross over. Also Joey does get a couple power dunks in and Stephen never does. But honestly i think they should be in the D league

I haven't seen much of Joey other than a few dunks when the Raptors made their playoff push a couple of seasons ago. I think Stephen has great offensive skills and produces points when he does get minutes but there's really no reason for him to ever play more than maybe 10 minutes in a given game, unless we're up or down by around 30 points. HIs defense is pretty shaky.

All I know is that Joey was significantly better than Stephen in college. It's hard for me to tell which one is better now since Stephen rarely plays and I don't have many opportunities to watch the Raptors. It's a little surprising to me though that Joey Graham has not done more in the NBA by now. When he came out of Oklahoma State, I figured him for a solid NBA defender who might also be able to score a bit--in other words, at least a solid rotation guy at one of the wing spots. I was kind of interested in seeing the Pacers draft him at #17 that summer. Of course, I never dreamed that Danny Granger would still be available.

Kinda funny that a couple days after this thread was started, Joey and Stephen both got "significant" minutes in blowout losses and both put up very similar stats.

Joey Graham - 26 minutes played, 6/9 FG, 13 points, 5 rebounds (Raptors lose to Utah by 27)
Stephen Graham - 25 minutes played, 5/11, 14 points, 3 rebounds (Pacers lose to Cleveland by 24)

Since both players are pretty bad.... i will have to go with head-to-head. And Stephen leads the series 3 games to 1. And Stephen has the best indivisal game in the head-to-head series, 21min, 16pt, 6reb in a 122-111 Indiana win over Toronto.

Joey's best game vs. Stephen, came in a 94-81 win over the Rockets, where Joey scored 10 points in 19 minutes.

They meet again in a few days... although, something tells me their matchup will be over shadowed by the Jermaine O'Neal vs. TJ Ford/Rasho hype surrounding the game. lol

no...grang33r, joey right now is much better than stephen, when tthe raps faced the pacers this year, all stephen did was turn it over, get offensive fouls calls and fould on the other end while joey slammed it and played pretty well on d and o

I think they both suck. But i only based it on head-to-head games, and Stephen does lead it. Is it a fair comparison? No. Is Joey better? Probably. But i only based it on head-to-head thus Stephen wins. And he's a Pacer. So +1 for that too. lol
