Cro waived by Milwaukee

Post#1 » by writerman » Wed Jan 7, 2009 1:58 am

Time for Croshere to come home--not as a player, maybe, but definitely in the front office somewhere.

Total class guy, always gave it everything he had when he was a Pacer. Never will forget his playing his butt off with his cracked ribs bound after the brawl when we could only field about half a team because of suspensions.

IMO, that's the kind of class and commitment you can never have too much of. I think he has something to contribute--maybe working with McRoberts, who I think has some decent potential.

Anyway, the guy was good for this franchise, and no-one ever questioned that he's a class act. There ought to be some place in the Pacer organization for him.

He was given a chance recently, and we let him go.

I'm all for him getting a behind the scenes job here. I always loved his ethic and heart when he was here.

Your right man. Croshere would make a very good front office guy. I had never thought about it until you said it. I also like the idea of bringing him in to coach McRoberts.

That being said, he still wants to play, but maybe when his career is officially over we could get him.

Also, Fred Jones was released as well. I would love to pick him up, though I'm usually against cutting players, I'd take Fred Jones over Graham anyday of the week.

I agree, it would be good to re-accommodate him here somehow.

While i am not too sure about what Croshere brings to the table, anyone think that Chris Mullin will join our front office at some point? He's on his last year of his contract and Nelson is pretty much taking over the team. They also removed Mullin as first in charge in the front office. Some other dude is now in charge of moves. Mullin will be a free agent after the season. A Mullin/Bird front office would be cool. I really think once Bird fixes this team and we're a solid playoff squad, he will step down, i really believe due to his health and such he's only here to rebuild us. So after 2 or so seasons, Mullin could take over the GM ranks from Bird. Just a crazy theory.

Or Reggie Miller?

I think we have had enough of the two headed monster in the front office, so I'm content with Bird being the lone wolf for awhile. Besides, David Morway is technically the GM I believe, and he will probably take over the reins from Bird when (and if) the time comes.

What qualifications does Croshere have to work in the front office? Heart and hustle are nice on the court, but pretty much translate to squat sitting behind a desk. How about we bring in some qualified people to run our organization instead of just handing out jobs to former players?

^^ I agree. If he has a lot to offer and we interview him, then sure. Or a job like Sam Perkins currently has, where he works in the area and stuff is ok too. But a front office job? He needs to show that he knows what he's doing. Heart and hustle are not good enough. If it were, Fred Hoiberg would be in our front office as well.

Ironically, Fred Hoiberg is an assistant GM in Minnesota. =)

I dont like just adding former players to the front office. Being good at the game (or mediocre in Paxson, Hoiberg, and a slew of others' cases) does not qualify one to be making personnel decisions. Sure, sometimes it works out (Dumars comes to mind), but more often than not, it is a tragedy (see: Isiah Thomas, Kevin McHale, Michael Jordan, etc).

Minnesota's front office isn't exactly a model for anyone to emulate either.

Hoiberg I think recently joined. He's been there for a while, but I think the asst. GM is a new title. Most likely he was working PR or something, kind of like Starks with the Knicks,

Has Bird shown any problems with his health?

Croshere was a solid role player, but I'm not sure what exactly he could do for this organization.

Croshere signs 10 day contract with the San Antonio Spurs.

The San Antonio Spurs today announced that they have signed free-agent forward Austin Croshere to a 10-day contract. The 6-10, 235-pound Croshere joins the Spurs after being waived by the Milwaukee Bucks on 1/6. Now in his 12th NBA season, he has also played for the Indiana Pacers, Dallas Mavericks and Golden State Warriors. Croshere was originally drafted 12th overall by Indiana in the 1997 NBA Draft. This season Croshere appeared in 11 games with the Bucks and averaged 3.3 points and 2.2 rebounds in 7.0 minutes per game. Over his career he has averaged 6.9 points and 4.1 rebounds in 656 games. Croshere has also appeared in 68 playoff games where he averaged 6.7 points and 3.6 rebounds.

Not sure anybody cares or not but i figured since we had a recent topic on him, i'd post the newest news on this former Pacer.
