Anyone missing Donnie Walsh??

I know I am missing the guy what a brilliant dude he is. As much as i dislike the knicks look at the job he's done fixing Isiah Thomas' mess!!!

I liked Donnie, but he's in a position now where he can spend money. The deals they've done so far all centered on them being unafraid to pay luxury tax in the short term to get in position for 2010. Also, if this other deal with the Kings goes down you have to thank Isiah somewhat because he did draft Robinson...Lee as well. Isiah had a good eye in the draft, but should be kept as far from the other decisions as possible.

Thomas made a few good picks but his trades were horrible and when he was here he nearly destroyed the pacers all by himself.

Of course. That man is responsible for nearly all of the success this team had in the 90s and early 00s.

Donnie Walsh somehow convinced another team to take Jerome James in a trade. That's about twice as hard as it would be to convince a team to take Tinsley, and the man did it. I miss him for damn sure!

If he turned down a Jared Jeffries/Nate Robinson for Kenny Thomas deal, then he messed up.

If he's shooting for 2010 cap space, and he turned down a chance to cut around $7-14 million in contractual obligations for that offseason, then he screwed up.

Marc Stein: The Knicks are not trading Nate Robinson to Sacramento.

Now we know that for sure.

After hearing from a couple of rival executives at the trade-deadline buzzer that the Kings did manage to convince the Knicks to part with their backcourt dynamo, we were just told by one source close to the process that Sacramento definitely was not able to land Robinson.

The Kings offered Kenny Thomas to New York in exchange for Robinson and Jared Jeffries, banking on the idea that New York couldn't resist the opportunity to remove Jeffries' salary from its payroll, which would have cleared another $6.8 million off the books for the summer of 2010.

But the Knicks, we're told, couldn't bear to part with the popular Krypto-Nate, who just dethroned Dwight Howard in this past weekend's dunk contest.

I'm told Robinson is representing the Knicks as we speak ... taping an appearance with David Letterman that will air tonight.

Well maybe they just let nate walk and we can get Jeffries for JT in the summer? Doubt that Donnie takes on jt under any circumstances but maybe we can get Thomas from Sacto after the season ends? I'm a little depressed right now.

He still couldn't move Stephon Marbury, but he is a great front office man.

The problem with trading Nate Robinson now is that he's one of the few players Knicks' fans probably enjoy. You have take in account attendance in the short-term.

As for Walsh, he's pulled off some goods moves. The Larry Hughes trade was golden given that Hughes is a quality player whereas Jerome James is pretty much worthless, and he did it without taking any longer-term contracts.

Actually, he had a few chances to move Marbury. He just chose not to.

Unless you count the ABA years, we don't have a lot of other choices that come close.

Donnie Walsh is a great GM, he is proving that in NYK. I dont miss him yet but lets see how our picks pan out and what moves we make in the next couple years. A general rule of thumb is you give a GM 5 years before you judge them, Larry seems to be doing well so far.

I am not familiar with this rule of thumb. Being the impatient bastard that I am, I'll give him three years. Yes, it is people like me that are the reason college football coaches get canned after three years.
