Sure, and MOST IU fans do, we cheer for Butler, Notre Dame, IUPUI, Valpo, and the other schools, just NOT Purdue... I mean that is our arch enemy as far as a rivalry... Do you think that Duke fans or North Carolina fans root for each other when they are not playing each other?? I would say that they do, but only are rooting for them to lose...

One thing I am very proud of though, is that IU fans know what to respect, and when to show it.

It was great to be in Assembly Hall for Gene Keady's last game there as head coach at Purdue. The standing ovation he got before the game was tremendous, and went to show that while we hate Purdue, there is a mutual respect there. That made me proud of my fellow IU fans. It also gave me more respect for Purdue and Keady for the gratitude he showed at that time as well.

However, I can't ever bring myself to actually root for them. Much in the same way I can't ever bring myself to root for USC or Boston College. I might respect them, but I could never root for them.

We had a string of teams that flamed out late in the season, and you get the sense that his antics were taking a greater toll on the players than it had in the past. With the way the college game has changed, the prized recruits don't want to play for a disciplinarian like Knight.

Davis nearly won the NCAA title with knights last team! 8-)

They are on the right track now, however, with Greenspan out and Crean as the head coach.

Crean is a master recruiter (top 5 class coming in next year), and he really knows how to get his guys motivated. It's hard this year with only 2 guys back (one of whom was walk on last year, and Taber, who didn't play last year either). Everyone knew it would be bad, but they will we back on track in two years.

I'm confident that Crean can turn it around and bring iU back to respectability at least. 8-)

For all the things he did 3 championships wasn't enough. I'm not saying he wasn't a good coach, but he was also an a$$. I actually like him more now on tv.

btw, you couldn't possibly have expected IU to do well this season with pretty much 90% of the team being walk-ons. IU will be better next year with their incoming freshman class, but they won't be fully healed for a couple more years. Unless they become the new "baby boilers."

Also, why is it that so many people feel like they can only root for IU, or only root for Purdue? I am an Indiana basketball fan, and by that I mean the ENTIRE state and I can still call myself a true fan. I love basketball and there's no reason to bash another team from your home state, specially when your "favorite" team is not playing well. I know when the tournament comes around I will be cheering for ALL of the Indiana teams to do well. And once they are eliminated I will cheer for the entire Big Ten. Maybe I'm alone on this, I don't know. I guess I am just a TRUE Indiana basketball lover.

How many NCAA titles did Knight win? 3 like I said with a break or 2 it could have been 5 or 6 Without knight we'd never have won one. He won those titles without superstars! In 1987 the Hoosiers beat Syracuse who had 4 or 5 #1 picks and long time allstar NBA players on that team. Derrick Coleman, Sherm Douglas, Rony Seikely we're all #1 picks I think maybe not Douglas? But anyhow knight graduated 98% or his players and won 3 titles without the #1 NBA pick types that NC and KU and kentucky had.

Sorry, I love Indiana basketball just as much as you, but I'm currently an IU student, and I HATE Purdue.

Dude I still hate Purdue. Remember the time Bob Knight had a donkey in a Purdue hat on his show and said it was the biggest Purdue fan ever!!

IU will be fine. They got one of the best in coming freshman classes. They finally have size coming as well.

As for the other instate schools, they all suck but Butler!
