Murphy's Consistency

Post#1 » by Gremz » Fri Mar 6, 2009 7:42 am

The guy has been on a productive tear of late. Averaging 18.9ppg 14.4rpg 3.1apg in the absence of Granger, while shooting .500FG% and .433% from the 3 point line. I pose this question. With his play, is he able to push on and make himself an adequate threat past this season for us?

I have found myself all year contemplating the PF spot past this season, and was unsure of the direction to go in this regard. While i would still like this position to be the main focal point of the draft, I for one am quite content with Murphy playing out his contract here in the interim.

I feel as though he is emerging as a great compliment to our core this season, and while we can all agree that his contract is still high, it's nice to see him taking some control and doing his best to justify his $.

Should be look to move him while his value is peaking? Or is he a keep player for the next two years.

Thoughts?

Even though he has been playing some great ball lately, I don't think many teams will give him a look simply because of his contract during these times. So basically, he's here until his contract expires, or unless a team wants him as an expiring the year before. I don't really think we have a choice. Plus who are you going to get that makes his salary, that's just as productive, and that another team would be willing to give up for Murphy?

I love how he's stepped his game up in the absence of Danny and Dunleavy, and it has been really needed. I don't know where we'd be without the contributions from Murph some nights. However, I do wonder if he'll still be as aggressive when they get back. He's even taking it to the rim a lot more and taking defenders off the dribble. I hope he doesn't become passive when Danny comes back, knowing he can just pass it off and let Danny do the rest.

I'd love to keep him if he gets even a little better in the post. If he could hit a hook shot with some consistency, he might be a #2 option behind Granger next year.

We still need an interior offensive presence to offset Troy's outside/in game.

I'd like to draft a PF still, but I'm very content with keeping Murphy. I wouldn't expect our rookie PF to be ready, especially from this years draft class.

I've been really impressed with Murphy's play so far this season. He has been one of our most consistent players. Even though his value is pretty high right now, I think we'd still have a hard time moving him due to our contract. I'd like to see us keep him for the rest of his contract.

Murphy has been REAL solid this season. We still could use an interior presence, but Murphy has changed his image around here from "a guy whose contract we're going to just have to wait out" to a key member of our core.

His name shortens to Trophy. End of story.

Okay, so not really, but I keep trying to plug that name, but it seems we're so far away from getting one that the nickname won't stick.
