OT: Anyone else going to the 500?

Post#1 » by Charcoal Filtered » Thu May 21, 2009 4:54 pm

Lived in the Indy area for over 20 years and still go back frequently. For some reason, I have never went to the race and finally am going. Alot of the luster of the race has been lost IMO due to the split. Still think it should be an excellent event.

I'm going, also for the first time. It should be a pretty good time.

I think a lot of what was lost has come back. Unfortunately a lot of it is because of Danica. And stupid drivers will move to Nascar (I like Nascar move, but the 500 is awesome) and fail. I will be at the race, I think it's the 7th time or something.

I'm coming in from Cleveland for something like my 13th straight race or so.

Really looking forward to it. There's just absolutely nothing like it, especially if you're in a group that loves the tradition. I mean, we're in a group of around 50 (friends, family, acquaintances, etc.) drink all day, hop on a bus, get a police escort, hop in our seats about an hour before, and just love it. For my money's worth, hearing ol' Gomer Pyle (Jim Nabors) sing Back Home Again is just amazing.

Hell, even post split, and now post merging back, the 500 still rocks, and there's nothing like it. The roar of the crowd when Danica lead. The roar when Marco looked like he was going to exorcise the Andretti demons. The roar when Sam snuck by Marco by about thiiiiiiiis much........Ah.....

It's just one of the greatest things on Earth. I miss not hearing the 500 updates everyday for a month.

Oh, and you will NEVER get me back at the Brickyard 400. I used to like the NASCAR races a bit, but they just don't even come close to comparing to the 500. Last year's 400 was so awful, I don't think it can ever recover. At least, in my eyes.

Awesome, I'm pumped. Doing the whole camping out thing, tickets for the infield, drinking with friends. No work on Monday. Good weekend already.

Yeah, I actually follow Nascar a little bit. The Brickyard sucks compared to the 500. Just the crowd/interesting characters at the 500 is awesome. The tradition, the boozing, everything is just great.

When NASCAR switched from a sport of characters (like Ricky Rudd, Ward Burton, Dale Earnhardt, Dick Trickle, Richard Petty, Dale Jarrett, Ernie Irvan, etc) to a sport dedicated to corporations and proper conduct and policy, where only Tony Stewart would've fit in with the old guys, it lost out to me.

I mean, there's a few guys that can drive the wheels off of anything. Namely, Tony Stewart and Carl Edwards. Hell, Sam Hornish was the same way in open wheels. However, for the most part, the Casey Mears' of the NASCAR world have really turned me off.

Then again, I just love the Andretti's, Unser's, and Foyt's sniping at each other. That made racing.

I hate nearly everything about NASCAR. Just not my thing.

I like Jeff Gordon and want to see an Andretti (preferably Marco, now) win the 500.

I am going on Marlboro's dime. They relentlessly send me stuff, and I don't even smoke. Open wheel racing is much more exciting because they are a lot faster and the drivers actually have to have enough skill to avoid contact. The only thing I like about Napcar is when Hoosiers dominate.

Nice, when I worked at the suites they were awesome. Are the Tower Suites the ones on the inside on the front stretch near the yard of bricks? AKA the super nice ones.

Just remember to wear earplugs...I've been to 4 races. Last year was my last one for a while I think. I went deaf in one ear for a month. Not a good time. I still am having some problems with it.

So, what'd you guys think?

We had a great time in turn 2. Great long stretches of racing. A few great wrecks, but everybody walked away. And, no doubt that the guy with the best car overall won.

Loved it. I had a great time. The whole experience was fantastic. The campgrounds were insane, there were literally no rules there. You could do anything (not that I did, I'm just saying, I saw some crazy stuff). I was in the infield on turn 3, actually had a pretty good setup there.

Was sitting between turns 1 and 4 in section C in the shade. Great time and great race.
