The Mag's player mock draft

Post#1 » by granger05 » Sun Jun 21, 2009 8:24 pm

In the new issue of ESPN (the magazine) they grabbed a player from each NBA team to make that team's pick in a mock draft. Here's how the lottery shook out.

1) Clippers: Blake Griffin
2) Grizzlies: Hasheem Thabeet
3) Thunder: James Harden
4) Kings: Ricky Rubio
5) Wizards: DeMar DeRozan
6) TWolves: Brandon Jennings
7) Warriors: Ty Lawson
8) Knicks: Stephen Curry
9) Raptors: Tyreke Evans
10) Bucks: Jonny Flynn
11) Nets: Terrence Williams
12) Bobcats: Chase Budinger
13) Pacers: Jordan Hill
14) Suns: Gerald Henderson

Each player made a comment on their pick. Granger picked for the Pacers and had this to say:
"We need an athletic big man. Even though he's raw, I thinkhe can help us right away. Sometimes you have guys who are polished but they lack size or athleticism. He's got both of those gifts, so it's just a matter of time. He's got a lot of potential."

Other notables: Jrue Holiday fell all the way to the Jazz at #20. At first when I saw the UCLA jersey I thougth it was Collison. Jeff Teague fell all the way out of the first round, and Jon Brockman was selected at #23 (by his former teammate Spencer Hawes for the Kings). I also learned that Brandon Jennings and Kevin Love were AAU teammates which helped Love select Jennings for the TWolves. Not sure if this is a strong endorsement or not:
"We need a good 3, but since DeMar and Harden are off the board, I like Brandon. I admire his passing and I've been on the good-and bad-end of ones that resulted in dunks. Plus, he's a lefty which makes him unorthodox and a tough matchup."

This is pretty interesting. Thanks for sharing.

I wonder who on the Wiz selected DeRozan at 5.

Also, who on the Warriors selected a guard? I thought Monta asked them not to draft a guard and they promised not to.

Granger did the right thing by picking up Hill. I doubt he falls all the way to 13, but if he does then you gotta take him. Too much potential to pass on.

Jrue Holiday.

Probably Brandon Wright, since it's Ty Lawson they picked.

Probably Brandon Wright, since it's Ty Lawson they picked.

I would have thought so too, but it was actually Ronny Turiaf, wow. "He's also an underrated defender. I can see Ty becoming a smaller version of Chauncey Billups."

As for the Bobcats taking Budinger - Felton made the pick. Williams was off the board and you can't expect him to pick a Dukie.
