Let Jack walk. I liked the guy but too much money for us to handle and he is getting overpaid by a little. We aren't going to win a championship this season. Ford, Diener, and Price will be fine. If not then get an steady veteran for cheap. We can't mess up our rebuilding for the future 2 years by getting trigger happy and making emotion-based moves because we lose Jack. Ford will be off the books next season and Tinsley's expiring 2 seasons from now will be good trade bait. We'll be able to get a good PG there to play will a supporting cast that will continue to grow this year. Bird's plan WILL work in two or three years like planned and you will really begin to see strides next season.
Let Jack walk!

No. You're assuming that Diener + Price = an adequate backup PG.
not at all. he's made the very realistic statement that we're not contenders anyway which I fully agree with. I sure don't care whether we win 40 games, 35, or even 30 this year.
the pressure is squarely on TJ with this lineup. if he can prove to be a quality starter, we'll probably still be a second tier team. if not and we're third tier, I'd rather play for lottery balls than a hopeless playoff series. keeping Jack wouldn't make us a first tier team so what is the problem?
oh, you won't buy tickets now. when did you last buy them? I've renewed my season ticket and was able to get a better seat at a bargain price and I sure won't feel cheated if they let Jack go.

Actually I've been a lifelong fan and was a season ticket holder last season and am thinking about renewing for this season. Way to look like a jerk though. Good job.

well if you do, drop me a private note sometime after the season begins and I'll buy you an adult beverage over which we can discuss how the point guards are doing.

AJ will be solid backup. The Pacers missed out on Marcus Williams, he wouldve been perfect. But im glad he is going to play for the Grizzlies. Ford is a very good PG and AJ will surprise a lot of you doubters.

Now that I can respect. That is how 2 adults should always settle anything... over an adult beverage

Re: Ford, Deiner, Price.....
I'm not a TJ fan but if you can get the same productivity from him this year that you got last losing Jack is not a disaster. There were stretches when all three point guards were getting minutes. This happened because Jack got so much time at the 2 and Jones should change the needs at that position. Get Dunleavy back and there would be little if any run for Jack anywhere but at the point.
That's why matching Jack is a questionable move. Its too much money to lay out for a guy who projects to be a backup pg.
Hopefully we can take some more time and assess just what we have in AJ Price before acquiring another stop gap backup type.
On the other hand, I think you look pretty hard at what could be worked out to acquire either Andre Miller or Ramon Sessions.

The only chance we have to get either Miller or Sessions would be by trading Ford. Then we would be in a similar situation without a quality backup pg.

Re: Ford, Deiner, Price.....
Im saying this in 2 posts.
I say if we can't match JJ without straining finances. Dont. Other wise yes bring him back. I also would like to trade ford for any position. as long as it is a future piece or exp. Bird is being patient, and I love it. It pisses fans off but oh well. not too many gms look at a below 500 team and think lets solidify our bench for the future. its smart. anyways to the point i came here to say. we know bird wants a core pg to addd to our future 4. we know he wnats a bigger pg that excels in defense. we also know that obviously its not JJ, Ford, Tinsley, Diener, or AJ. If it was he wouldnt still be looking. Im not a huge college ball follower, but I read about a sophomore out of kansas named Tyshawn Taylor who is 6'3" known for work ethic and defensive prowess. any thoughts?

I don't think Sessions fits into O'brein's system either, we need a pg that can knock down the 3.

Why put pieces in that fit a coach who probably won't be here in two years?

Good point.
And without O'brein, I think people will be much happier with ford. I for one, think i would be happy with either ford or sessions sins O'brein. Of course, after another season with Ford under O'brein, I doubt anyone will want to keep tj including myself.
