Gabe Pruitt
So this is the guy that I hope we end up with in any sign and trade of Marquis to the Celtics (Draft Express profile). He's still only 23, he's got good size for a point guard, and even though he's played really limited minutes his A-TO numbers have been respectable (52 assists versus 24 turnovers in his 460 career minutes). His shooting has been terrible, but I'm hoping that's due to the spotty nature of his minutes....maybe. Anyway, he's the one guy that I think makes sense for us, and history has shown that one of the other point guard options on his team will play better than TJ Ford so let's diversify those options. My apologies to TJ, but it was smart to bring him in just so that one of our other PGs would turn into something.

So that way we can have 6 PG's on our roster? I'd like to see us get rid of one (Tinsley), maybe even two of these guys (Diener), not add more.

Re: Gabe Pruitt
Appears to be a great practice shooter and pretty lousy in games. He plays average to good defense, nothing more, nothing less. The thing that makes me skeptical about Gabe is he's had many opportunities to win the backup pg position, but every year the C's are still in the hunt for a backup because he just doesn't take advantage of the situation. I really question if he has that killer instinct because he just looks too passive out there, and really for a point guard he doesn't have the ball much or seem to even mind because he never demands the ball to creat/set-up plays. He seems perfectly happy with getting rid of the ball asap and as a fan it looks like his version of success is simply not making mistakes.
On a young rebuilding team though he would probably get more minutes, perhaps get more comfortable, and assert himself. Since the Celtics are not that team, my assertions of him may not be relevant to the Pacers chances of him finding success at all.

I'd rather have Bill Walker.

Well, the Tinsley situation will come to a head next week. Either way, he won't be playing for us. Diener has one year left and Watson only signed for one year as well. So after next season we would have Ford and then Pruitt/Price and see if one of them looks like they could take over in the future. That doesn't seem unreasonable.

True, but for a team that isn't exactly durable, you can't afford to have 6 of your 15 players limited to one position....that's setting yourself up for failure. Now maybe if we traded Diener in a package for Pruitt, we'd be at 5...but I'd like still like to trim that number down to 4.

gabe seems to have all the tools just doesn't know how to use them, he is said to have a great shot but never makes it in games, he has great size but doesnt really use it to his advantage, his worst failure is that he is too tentative, maybe thats just because he has never had solid minutes, he lit up the d league his rookie year, i havent given up on him yet but he would have to show me something soon, to get excited about him if i were getting him back in a trade
i think denier would be great fit for the celtics, im hoping we get him back in a s&t, even if we give up walker and pruitt

That seems beyond unreasonable. Do you really want to see if GABE PRUITT or AJ PRICE can take over as our PG of the future? That's beyond scary. I don't even know what the word would be for that, but reasonable is not it.

My point was that having 3 PGs on the roster in 2010/2011 doesn't seem like an unreasonable number. Whatever we do with this Celtics S&T it won't change the fact that Diener and Watson aren't signed beyond next season. Would you prefer to just have Ford and Price? Is that more reasonable?

We have no idea what is going to happen next season with our PG situation. For all we know....just like Jack...we maybe trying out Watson for this season and then try to re-sign him next season if he works out. If we don't re-sign Watson.....getting a 3rd String PG isn't hard to do. For now and into the foreseeable future.....we need more depth at the GF spot as opposed to the PG spot for this season as well as next season.
Walker makes the most sense to me to play behind BRush/Granger/Inferno/Dunleavy over the next 2 seasons as a GF Prospect that we could work out for a season or two. If he works out...we keep him to fill Dunleavy's role after the 2010-2011 season. If we were interested in working out a PG prospect....I'd much rather give the minutes to AJ Price then to Pruitt.
I'd be happy with Tony Allen+Walker+$$$ ( to buy out Allen ) for Marquis ( S&T ).

Considering that gives us space to go find a backup PG (draft or otherwise) yes I think that sounds much more reasonable than pinning our hopes on 1 of 2 PG's who nobody expects anything out of, 1 of which has had 2 seasons to establish himself as a backup PG and hasn't been able to do so.
