^^^That's what I was thinking, when you buy a guy out you then release him, you have to release him and he has to clear waivers which he surely will.

Count55 if he clears waivers lets say we gave him $10 million to leave, and he signs with Philly for say $1.5 does that have any effect on the $5 mil a year hit we take for cap purposes.

Our cap amount will be reduced by any contract he sign, less the vet min for a player of his experience. In your example, you would take the $1.5, subtract the vet min ($1.2 for Tinsley at 8 years), and that would reduce our cap hit by $0.3...this year.

I find it unlikely that anyone will offer more than the min.

After all the Larry Bird-$#!t spewed about not buying out players (right before we bought out Eddie Jones) and how it was against their principles, blah, blah, blah, somebody needs to come out and explain this immediately. I hope something in the buy-out agreement involves surrendering any right to litigation (I would assume it does) because Tinsley has a damn good case. We could have bought him out long ago and he could be on his merry way with another team and it would've all been behind us. I bet that we didn't even buy him out at much of a discount (or any) because of the threat of litigation.

Not sure what I think of the Pacers leadership's 'decision-making' and 'character' at this point... from hypocrisy to bad-mouthing a player, from tanking an assets' value to letting a good player go, from drafting Shawne Williams to drafting Tyler Hansbrough/AJ Price, from overpaying an over-rated 'stopper' to picking up another team's 'cancer' - just not sure.

I'm optimistic though.

You do guard your optimism well.
I thought a buyout wouldn't carry a cap-hit, except for the upcoming or current season. Whatever a team signs him for aren't we responsible for the difference?

So if he signs more than the vet minimum it is already a good move. He isn't even a bad player, at all, he is just crazy. We all need to start making highlight reels and send them to teams with a little bit of money. He can play. And Count, if he does play in Europe for, say, $5 million, does that mean $3.2 Million in cap space, or is it only for the NBA?

And does Tinsley get ALL the money from us and all the money from the other team? I believe he would have to, or else he wouldn't make any money if he signed anywhere. So I guess his signing just affects the cap space. Hey, I will take any cap space we can get!

Also, what if he gets hurt and cannot play again in the next few weeks, can insurance still pay for it and he is off the cap?

Let's start looking for Tinsley in the early days when he could dish it out! Hmmm, I wonder what team would be interested?? If 2 teams are interested that could help. I really do believe it's possible he gets more than the minimum. He could play, and as long as he wasn't sitting on the couch all day he probably still can. He probably was sitting on the couch all day, though. Maybe no offers would be good and then he would go overseas and play. As long as that money comes off of our cap.

It's a great day to be a Pacer!

My understanding is that the buy out amount lets say $10 million is divided by the number of years. So say $5 million a yr. We're not gonna get insurance because he's no longer on our team. As far as the Euro contract, I don't know if that reduces our cap/tax hit?? I see a wire story that the Greek team has lost out on Nate Robinson so maybe they'll go after JT, we should all send out emails to them touting JT. Question is how many strip clubs are there in Greece? 8-)

I kinda doubt it would do anything for the cap if it isn't the NBA, but if it is that'd be huge. We just have to combine our money, but a team, and then pay Tinsley a bunch. We pay him in cash. We give him fake bills--he doesn't notice because it's "foreign" money. Oooh, and because he has never played Monopoly.

Tinsley was scheduled to make $14.7 million over the two seasons. He is expected to receive about $10.7 million

Tinsley's buyout will count against the Pacers' salary cap, though it was unclear whether it will be broken up into two years.

we saved 4 million. i just read and article about it in the indysar. it may not be broken up into multiple years. its yet to be determined.

The cap hit will be pro-rated over the length of his contract...that's defined in the CBA.

The actual payout is what may not be clear.

Maybe it's just a coincidence, but Kleiza's agent recently told Lithuanian basketball federation that Kleiza will sign something very soon. Are Pacers still interested in Kleiza?

Possibly...but doubt it. Even if we were, we have no way of signing him as we've used up the MLE. I'm sure Denver would match a league minimum offer on Kleiza.

It'd have to be S&T.
