Shawne Williams gets Tinsleyed

Post#1 » by mizzoupacers » Mon Oct 12, 2009 2:33 pm

I'm not one to dwell on the past, but I thought this was interesting:

Memphis native Shawne Williams is no longer with the Mavs even though he is under contract. The Mavs told Williams he is no longer welcome around the team because of his lack of maturity, professionalism and work ethic. Williams is in the last year of his rookie contract. Dallas is said to be holding onto his rights in case Williams can be used in a trade.

It's from a news article Sunday in a Memphis newspaper (Williams's hometown).

BTW, what's going on with Tinsley? I haven't heard anything about him being at anyone's training camp. None of the NBA's other 29 teams want to have Tins play for them while the Pacers pick up the tab? :dontknow:

The Pacers have been in some relationships that it doesn't want to talk about. Right now people may not be 100% satisfied with the situation we are in, but the most important thing is that we're heading in the right direction.

When I saw this, I have to shake my head remembering the people who once thought Shawne was going to be better than Granger.

I voiced my opinion otherwise, but I got an internet earful back.

Seems to indicate high maintenance, unproven or ordinary players are unwelcome in places other than Indiana.

At this point you have to wonder if Jamal will ever find a home. And Shawne Williams is just a sad waste of talent and opportunity. There will be no market for him until he moves to the D-League and shows he's willing to make some sacrifice to his profession.

It will be interesting to see if the Pacers ever draft an undeveloped guy (from a maturity standpoint) again.

I thought Shawne would be better than Granger. I wanted to trade Granger for a good/young PG. Hmmm, that could've been bad. But we could have Blake Griffin or Rose because of it, though, right?! Also, I never gave an earful to any1 who said Granger would be better than Shawne, I just had that opinion that now looks moronic (or maybe even Ryan Leaf-like).

Sucks for that to happen to any player, but man, some of these players are stupid! You get millions of bucks, c'mon!

Shawne Williams is both wasting his talent and opportunity. The kid obviously has some talent, it's just a shame that he's wasting it. What he needs to do is go play in Europe for a few years and learn what it's like to be a professional by riding the bench and having veterans lay into you. They won't baby you the way the NBA does sometimes.

^^I'm going to be honest, the whole "we could've drafted" thing never needs to be said, because there's surprises and disappointments everywhere. It's what makes the draft exciting. Everyone had a shot at Michael Redd, Gilbert Arenas, Carlos Boozer, etc.

For example, the people who drafted Joey Graham ahead of Danny Granger are shaking their heads.

Poor little guy. He's just a little lost, hopefully he can get some maturity lessons from JHo. Oh wait...

Shawne could have been great, the kid needed to stay in school at least on more yr. But he's massively immature and needs to grow up.

Just think how bad our 2006 draft was instead of Shawne we could have had Rondo, Instead of James White (who we waived) we could have had Paul Milsap. :banghead:

It's more important to hit a home run every now and then, than to never make mistakes. Sure you drafted some duds, but you also drafted Granger. The real trouble is when you end up like the Bobcats, making mostly reasonable picks but failing to hit a homer (we'll ignore the whole Adam Morrison thing for this discussion).

Hey, Adam Morrison has won an NBA title! Oooh man, it is brutal for the Bobcats, and they've had high draft picks. Atlanta has been bad too, but theirs is different. They just kept drafting the same type of players instead of great PGs like D-Will and CP3. To me it seemed like those 2 PGs were be at least pretty decent PGs. Marvin could've (or I guess still could) be amazing, but they were kind of going for it all when it wasn't necessary, in my opinion.
