DailyThunder.com trade idea for Troy Murphy

Troy Murphy
for
Nenad Krstic(5.1M 2yr), Matt Harpring $6.5M(insurance covered expiring contract) and Phoenix’ 2010 1st rounder

Much better than the CLE Cavs deal.

Worth it or not?

I explored a couple of pacers/thunder deals a while back, and I think that both Foster and Murphy could interest them. They have underperforming big men, on shorter/smaller contracts, like krstic, thomas, collison, and I think the pacers would have interest.

I'd do this deal. Krstic could work out as a stopgap big, we save a ton of money, and we get a (late) 1st rounder. Chalk it up and mail it out.

I like a Trade With Philly:

Indiana Sends:
Troy Murphy
T.J. Ford
Brandon Rush

Philly Sends:
Dalembert
Kapono
2010 1st Rd.

Pacers get rid of Ford and get a 1st. Rush gets traded to free up space for Kapono.

Philly gets a point guard and gets out of Dalembert's contract. Murphy's contract is similar but at least he will produce. Both are up in 2011.

I'd do that in a micro second! I like Murph but this is no brainer!

You sure you're a Pacers fan?

But seriously, that's not such a great deal.
Philly's not going to trade away an unprotected 1st in this draft. Just, not gonna happen, especially if the best player they get in return is Brandon Rush or Troy Murphy? And they're not moving Brand's deal. Expect major protections on that pick, meaning we wouldn't see it for about 3-4 seasons, and by then it would be a VERY late lotto at best. Most likely 15-20.

Yea I'm a Pacers fan but imo rush is the 4th best wing, ford is a shoot-first PG, and Murph has yet to show me he deserves to start in the NBA...I threw the Sixers pick in because we need to have at least one high lottery pick this year. If the Pacers for whatever reason decide that they want to start playing basketball I think we'll make a run at the playoffs and not get a high draft.

As a result next year we're in the same situation as this year. Average draft pick with no money to spend on a FA. Missing the playoffs once again with a low fan attendance. I think any trade we make this year has to include a draft pick or someone who has the potential to sell tickets.

If the OP trade offer is legit we better do that in a heartbeat. Harpring isn't playing right now though right? Didn't he have a season ending injury? But that's an expiring so that's good. Krstic isn't bad, and it's not like we need to compete anytime soon. Plus their pick is nice.

Yeah that's a great trade for Indiana. They get a first, a expiring and depth big man for when they trade Foster away.

Sounds good. Krstic has shown some flashes of being good. A late first could come in handy later on to either A) draft a guy like Sherron Collins, etc. B) package it to dump TJ Ford or C) move up in the draft... all of which could be beneficial.

Doesn't matter anything you think of from a Pacers perspective, as Philly will simply not do it. They're not going to trade away a likely 20-25% shot at John Wall for Troy Murphy and Brandon Rush. It's just not going to happen, unless they can HEAVILY protect that pick until eternity, meaning we'll get a Luke Harangody type player in return for taking on horrible contracts in Dally and Kapono.

Hell, Philly doesn't even shorten their contracts in this deal. As is, they would want Indy's 1st rounder this year unprotected as well in order to un-protect their pick. At LEAST.

I'd do the original deal no question.

I'd definitely do this deal.

Also, it's worth noting Krstic has a player option for next year. He'll probably pick it up since it's at 5.8M but you never know with a team as bad as the Pacers he might just want out. Probably just wishful thinking on my part though.

I'd try to get DJ White in a deal with OKC too. He's not really in the rotation there and I think he'd be a nice crowd favorite in Indiana. Add Solomon to the original deal and basically just swap them.

As a big Hoosiers fan I'd love to see them get DJ. He's just wasting away there in OKC, that kid has tons of heart and is tough, and will play his butt off. If he can get some PT, he'd produce.

Yeah. DJ could play both PF and C, meaning he and Hansbrough could be like Antonio and Dale Davis, and Hibbert could essentially be a Smits like player.

Essentially, I want a Dale Davis type enforcer to play with Hibbert. Dale could play both PF and C (like DJ White) and could lay a guy on their butt, or just get angry at them.

After missing almost all of last season due to a pair of surgeries on a benign tumor in his jaw, D.J. White will miss up to two months after undergoing surgery Thursday to repair a fracture in his right thumb. The injury occurred in practice.

Gotta feel for DJ here...

If I know DJ at all, he'll work his butt off and get back to shape to get on the court as fast as he can. Someone will get a great player for cheap if they wait till this guy gets healthy.
