Kevin Martin

Post#1 » by Starkiller » Fri Jan 22, 2010 5:27 pm

I noticed the Mavs were interested, and I thought he'd be great to pair w/ Granger on the wing as our SG when we make our run. Anyway we can aquire him? When is he a FA? Probably wouldn't break the bank to get him and it would be a great pickup.

I would love to get Martin here.

His deal is until 2012/13 so it would have to be via trade. I'd have no idea what Sacramento would want for him though.

Pacers have nothing the Kings would want.

Martin's injury issues concern me. He missed 50 games combined over the 07-08 and 08-09 seasons, and has missed 32 games this season. Lot of money to give to a guy that misses more games as each season passes, and we've been stuck with someone like that before.

Maybe bring in a third team? Someone looking for Foster or Murphy? Could the Kings use a PG or is Evans gonna play there? Bye TJ Ford?

Something like the Pacers get Martin, Cavs get Murphy, Kings get JJ Hickson and 2nd rounders from IN and CLE? Would something like that be possible?

Martin is a 25ppg scorer when healthy, I doubt JJ Hickson would make them donate him away.

If Sacramento was to give away Martin for Hickson, Ford and 2nd rounders, that would beat out the Pau Gasol trade to the Lakers as the most lopsided trade ever.

I just ran this through the checker and it works, but obviously there would have to be some picks involved to help intice a few of the teams into it. We may have to get rid of both of our 2nd rounders we have, or something, I feel we are getting WAY too much

http://www.realgm.com/src_checktrade.ph ... id=5399443

Trade ID: 5399443

IN gets: Zdrunas Illgauskas from CLE and Kevin Martin from SAC. They get the wing scorer to pair w/ Danny in Granger and the big expiring of Z to help gear up for the 2011 offseason. And they get rid of TJ to SAC

CLE gets: Troy Murphy from IN. They get the big that can stretch the floor and help them down the stretch in the playoff run. They give up JJ and a pick of some kind.

SAC gets: TJ Ford from IN, JJ Hickson from CLE and probably a 2nd rounder from both IN and CLE. They get a G to replace Martin on the roster, who may work in their system, a young big guy in JJ Hickson, and two 2nd rounders, giving them 4 picks in this draft, which would be a very talented class.

IDK, that was just off the top of my head. :-?

OT, but by the way Memphis has shaped that team since, I don't think the Pau trade is anywhere near as lopsided now as the time it was made. Zach Randolph is actually a positive asset there, yes shocking I know. They got him with some of that space, Marc Gasol, Sam Young, Darrell Arther, a returned 1st and still a 2010 1st to boot. Might not be just value still, but it's a lot better now than when they made the deal.

For the deal above, do you forfeit both 2nd rounders we have to land Kevin Martin if that would get it done? I think I do. Then we can use our 1st to get Wall if available, or like the other guy posted, trade it for Johnny Flynn and the later pick, and that get's our PG. I think we can compete next year w/ a starting lineup of

PG: Flynn
SG: Martin
SF: Granger
PF: Hansbrough
C: Hibbert

Dunleavy, Jones, Watson off the bench are nice, lack some depth in size though, but I like that starting 5. That could be our 5 for the future right there depending on how Flynn, Tyler, and Roy progress.

lol yeah totally. Kings are not in the giving away business.

Speaking of J.J. Hickson. Anyone watch his performance last night vs. the Lakers? He was a dominant force. On defense he was very good, very tough on rebounds, positioning was good and he wanted the ball to go against the Lakers front line. Very impressive game by Hickson.

I'm not a big K-Mart fan. We need a good defender next to Granger, K-Mart is an awful defender.

Yeah, seriously, the skillsets overlap too much. Brandon Rush is the SG that should be next to Granger.

It would take at least our 1st round pick and decent filler to even begin a Kevin Martin conversation. In terms of value to the Kings, he's only a bit lower than what Granger is to us. That should say a lot.

Not if they are looking at dealing him? If he meant that much they'd be building around him and Evans. :-?

Uh, every article about Martin clearly states that the Kings have made it clear that they DON'T have any intentions of moving him.

Why is it that people see "Team X interested in Player Y" and think "Player Y is available" ?

I agree that if he ever figures it out Rush is a great compliment to Granger. Two long guys who can score in multiple ways and defend on the wing is a combination few teams in the league have. I think you have to be pretty sure Rush isn't going to be that kind of player before you give up what it would take to get Martin.

Assuming our pick isn't top three this summer I would be ok with packaging it with one of our 2011 expiring contracts. I 'figure Sacremento would also want one of our other core young guys and that's where this gets tough for me to do. I really like Roy and Tyler and for the last week or so Rush has started to look like that great compliment to Granger.
