If Celtics are looking to trade Ray Allen for a younger, cheaper guard with an expiring contract, is it possible for the Pacers do like this:

BOS
Trade: Ray Allen, B.Scalabrine
Get: Big Z, T.J. Ford, Brandon Rush

CLE
Trade: Big Z, J.J. Hickson
Get: Troy Murphy, B.Scalabrine

IND
Trade: Murphy, Ford, Rush
Get: Ray Allen, Hickson

For the C's, they get what they want: younger, cheaper guards(Rush and Ford) and expiring contract(Big Z)

For the Cavs, they get the Big shooters Murphy and B.Scalabrine.

For the Pacers, we get the Best shooter in the league, who may be the best fit for JOB's system and an big expiring contract. And Ray Allen also could play point guard well, which is what the Pacers need most.

Please explain to me the rationale for trading a young SG who seems to be finally hitting his stride (Rush) to end up with a guy on the downside of his career that will do nothing for us but join the chucker brigade from beyond the arc, when we already have guys in plenty on the roster who do that?

IMO, stupid trade for us, while Boston makes out like a bandit getting a good-looking young SG and in addtion guys who give them some depth at PG (Ford) and in the frontcourt (Big Z) they need to win a title?

I'm not that thrilled with Hickson, either--just because he looked good against us, doesn't everyone this year? Others who know the game I've seen talk about him peg him as mediocre, a career back up who only plays as much as he does for Cleveland because they are relatively weak at that position.

Im fact in this trade both the other teams make out waaaaay better than the Pacers...

I doubt that Ray Allen Would even report here. He's a 10 plus yr vet doesn't he have the right to refuse a trade?

#1, the trade is nowhere near as bad for the Pacers as you make it out to be. Don't insult another poster's intelligence. If every slightly-less-than-realistic trade got ripped like that this whole forum would lack in discussion.

#2, TJ Ford and Big Z are not rotation players this season, especially on the Celtics.

#3, Rush is good, but Ray Allen still has 2-3 years left in the tank.

You're overvaluing Pacers' personnel. That said, I personally would want to hang on to Rush. In terms of youth and finance, this trade isn't so good for us, but the talent we get is proven and would help tremendously in the short-term.

First of all, I'm not overrating our players, but this trade gives us nothing, zero, zip, nada that we need and deprives us of a young SG that has serious potential to be a good player in this league for a guy who does nothing for our future. I doubt if he has even the 2-3 years left in him that you think he does, but even if he does, we're clearly in rebuilding mode and Allen doesn't fit even if he would come here.

I'm far from sold on Hickson, as I said. Murphy has his limitations, but Hickson from what I've seen will never be a consistent double-double guy. I live in Ohio and see the Cavs play on FSN Ohio frequently and he just isn't that good--he's the weakest link in that Cavs lineup. He's not going to help us that much in either the long term or short term, while Murph might very well be exactly the final piece the Cavs need to win a title.

The Celtics IMO don't have that much talent beyond their starters. Big Z, in particular, would play and give valuable minutes up front. Yeah, he's over the hill but you're undervaluing him--he's a genuine NBA big who still can give valuable minutes to a contending club like the Celtics. I used to cringe ever time we played the Cavs when Jermaine was here, because Z always gave him problems because he's so long and has that nice range and could go either inside or outside against JO.

I say again--VERY bad trade for us that gives us nothing we need either immediately or in the long run but which potentially really helps both the Celtics and the Cavs. There's nothing wrong with that if we get a genuine building piece in return, but this trade doesn't give us that--Allen is nearly through, and hickson IMO is long term a journeyman at best.
