If we can just get a nice young big man with some upside for Murphy, I'd be happy. I mean he's a nice player, but he's not really helping us in the next two years by keeping him. We might as well build for the long-term, because we just aren't a good team right now. Like that we're hot for Hickson.

Thought you guys might want this.

TROY MURPHY A KING?
Brian Windhorst of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports the Kings have inquired about the Indiana forward Troy Murphy, and that wouldn't be surprising.
I've been told that's not the case, but that doesn't mean it's not worth discussing. The Kings obviously want a big, and Murphy - who is a very productive one with a good inside-out game- is one of the few so widely known to be available. If this were to happen, look for it to be the aforementioned three-team deal in which Kevin Martin goes to Dallas. And consider this as well: Murphy is represented by agent Dan Fegan, who also represents Martin and most of the Mavericks team.

Who does Dallas have that we want? We wouldn't touch Josh Howard for character reasons.

Just for fun, what do you guys think of this trade?
Celtics get Kevin Martin and TJ Ford
Kings get Troy Murphy and Tony Allen
Indy gets Ray Allen, Glen Davis and Sergio Rodriguez

As I understand it, IND is holding out for Hickson, Big Z and a1st from the cavs. This is because they want a) a big (hickson) back who could play until Hansborough gets healthy again, and b) they want more value.
Would you consider an alternate deal expanded to include Mike Dunleavy?
IND out Troy Murphy, Mike Dunleavy
SAS out Richard Jefferson, Bonner, Mahinmi, Finley, 2010 1st
You get the fill in big man (Bonner, who's a low rent version of Murphy, so he'd fit just fine...), a prospect (Mahinmi) and a better 1st. You don't get as much immediate cap-space, but looking a shamsports, you're not really in a position to bring in FA's anyway next year (assuming TJ Ford picks up his option, and you move Murphy w/o getting Hickson back) as your guaranteed salary for 2010-11 is on the order of 57 million, which will only allow you the MLE and LLE. It doesn't cost you any 2011 capspace, and Jefferson is at least healthier than Dunleavy.

If it's all the same to our 2011 capspace and we get a 1st out of it, I don't see why not. I would like to swing Jefferson for someone else at that point, but it might be difficult with his value in the dumps thanks to his ailing Spurs season.

Good for Bird to be holding out for JJ Hickson. The Pacers will never be good until they get an improved big man next to Hibbert. I don't know what Hickson's peak will ever be in the NBA, but I don't think it will be as high as some of the Cavs fans think but I do think he will have a solid NBA career. Cavs could go a long way this year, maybe even all the way, so their first round pick could not really mean much. If i was Bird, i would stay with the Hickson demands. It's obvious that the Kings and Bucks want Murphy as well.
And as someone said, Pacers don't need to trade Murphy now. They could get good, maybe even better, value this summer. The Pacers are not in the giving away for free business.

I really don't see Bird moving Murphy for just expiring which alot of people are trying to make deals with. Some people kill me when they think the Pacers should take just Z for Murphy, we are not just going to give you a double-double guy for free. If Bird doesn't get a young player or a pick or both out of the deal I look for Murphy to remain a Pacer. I don't think he is going to take a bad deal for Murphy just to get under the tax, maybe someone else he might but not Murphy. As of right now if we don't get a PF back in a trade we will be in trouble, with just Jones, McRoberts, Hibbert to man the PF, C spot with Hansbrough out for who knows how long.
As a Pacer fan I would take Z, Jackson, 1st, Jackson's more of a banger.

Actually. the Pacers are the ones who should be insulted that the Cavs think this kid who has had a few good games is worth more than a proven double-double guy who has a huge expiring next year.
I see a lot of Cavs games on FSN Ohio. IMO the Cavs system makes Hickson look way better than he actually is. He's not worth it.
The Cavs must not be serious about wanting rings if they think they are going to get them with Hickson playing serious minutes in a playoff environment...
