Let's take a lesson from the Celtics...

Before the big trades were made the Celtics were in a dire position. I see it very similar to ours. They had one star player but couldn't get anything around him. All their youth they tried wasn't working out. So they traded for vets and legit players and surrounded them w/ their late, but solid picked players and proven role players. Look what happend.

I think we need the same type of exodus here. It seems like we've just been waiting for a miracle to happen. A young player to just break out and for us to strike gold, and it's just not gonna happen, we have to look at this draft and see what kind of team we can build in the same way the Celtics did. Maybe not this year, but next year when we have tons of cap room and whats sure to be another top ten pick.

its different because the had 2 stars in paul pierce and Al Jefferson(maybe not a start but thats how they got KG. well Granger=Jefferson and we have no one like pierce who would still be on the team.

We don't have a viable piece to get a former MVP on the back end of his prime like Al for KG.

You do realize what a freak occurrence getting KG and Ray Allen in the same summer was for that team, right?

And the 6th pick, and a bunch of young players with high potential like Delonte West Gerald Green and Ryan Gomes a second round guy who was pretty effective.

I think the comparison of Granger and Pierce is valid. By next year Hibbert could compare to Jefferson. Frankly I wouldn't trade Hibbert for Jefferson right now.

At that point in time the Celtics had been collecting a little longer than we have. They hit one home run when they got Rondo. The most important thing the Celtics did was find minutes for their young guys. Going into the summer of 2007 they had Rondo, West, Green, Gomes, Jefferson and Perkins. At the time all six were viewed as legit NBA players because they had gotten some exposure.

Interestingly, Jim O'Brien left Boston because he could see Ainge was in rebuild mode and had moved veteran players to the point the young guys were going to have to play. Following the Boston model Troy Murphy needs to be moved. O'Brien will play him at the expense of getting younger players on the floor. It would be akin to Boston's trading of Antoine Walker.

In my opinion there was no excuse for the Pacers not finding more minutes for McRoberts and Price this past season.

Point taken... We're far from having a solid consistant veteran team, and far from having any game changing young talent. With this lotto "luck", agaian we have no direction. Even with the expiring trades. Nothing really interesting with the 10th. The same thought gets GMs fired, but Larry is gonna have to press to eaither stike it rich (something drastic that doesn't "fit" his "plan") or go for broke (pick a middle of the road 3 or 4 year college guy that has "interesting upside" that really doesn't offer much more than what we saw in college) if he wants to win now. Personally, I'm a "what have you done for me lately" person..... Missed playoffs and late lottery picks are FAAAAR from a solution.... AND drafts haven't exactly been his strong point.. Larry has got 2 years to produce a contender, or I'm done... I need a bottle of scotch and a hand gun....

Freak occurrence? It's no different than LA stealing Shaq, Pau & Artest, but atleast the Celtics did actually return some talent. Regardless, it is in the best interest of the NBA to overstock historical teams. Stern is the RealGM(no pun). The Celtics and Lakers are stacked like the Yankees because the NBA's popularity has declined and the league thinks they can recreate their rise to the top based off of this rivalry.

By playing great defense? There's no way we can repeat the road the Celtics took in building a contender. KG's don't hit the market that often.
