Chad Ford Mock 2.0

Post#1 » by ardthomp » Wed May 19, 2010 7:40 pm

Don't know if anyone is an "insider" but here is the Chad Ford Mock for the first round:

1. Washington - John Wall
2. Philly - Evan Turner
3. NJ - Derrick Favors - with the first pick russian pick in the draft....
4. Minny - Wes Johnson
5. Sacramento - DeMarcus Cousins
6. Golden State - Cole Aldrich - wouldn't fit the helter skelter style
7. Detroit - Al-Farouq Aminu
8. LAC - Ekpe Udoh
9. Utah - Greg Monroe
10. Indiana - Ed Davis - please, NO
11. New Orleans - Daniel Orton
12. Memphis - Luke Babbitt
13. Toronto - Avery Bradley
14. Houston - Hassan Whiteside
15. Milwaukee - Gordon Hayward - didn't they already draft Joe Alexander?
16. Minny - Paul George
17. Chicago - James Anderson
18. Miami - Eric Bledsoe - another PG...don't see it happening
19. Boston - Xavier Henry - learning behind Ray Allen could have its benefits
20. San Antonio - Damion James
21. OKC - Donatas Motejunas
22. Portland - Patrick Patterson - steal for Portland this far down
23. Minny - Kevin Seraphin - last year was all PGs, this year, all SFs
24. Atlanta - Quincy Pondexter
25. Memphis - Craig Brackins
26. OKC - Solomon Alabi
27. NJ - Terrico White
28. Memphis - Larry Sanders
29. Orlando - Willie Warren
30. Washington - Keith "Tiny" Gallon - this guy is 300 pounds..get him on the Pittman program!

Yeah, Ed Davis wouldn't thrill me either.

I'm amazed to see Gallon projected for the first round, even at #30. That dude wasn't even ready for college ball; now he's supposed to be one of the top 30 guys available? I just don't see it.

Does anyone know anything about Paul George? A report I just read claims he is a 6'8" two guard and compares him to Joe Johnson. Probably that's a load of crap, but if there's any truth in it...the Pacers could kinda use a Joe Johnson type.

Ed Davis would be terrible for us. I absolutely do not want him on my team. Bad enough we have t-hans...

I wish we had the old J.O. back on this team. He would fit perfectly. Who in this draft is most like him? I've never seen Udoh play but it sounds like he's the closest.

Is anyone else intrigued by Avery Bradley? Athletic, defensive stopper, can shoot. Almost sounds like Brandon Rush 2.0 with less size, but more athleticism. Anyone think he could possibly play PG in the NBA? I definitely think his game translates better to the NBA.

He looks like a tweener guard to me--not a pg, and not big enough to be a two guard (or skilled enough to compensate for his lack of size, however you want to view it). I'm a bit surprised he's projected as a top-twenty pick. I think that's overrating him.

I'd prefer to trade back for James Anderson or Xavier Henry if they aren't locks for the top 10. Especially if Ekpe Udoh or Greg Monroe are gone.

I'd be thrilled with Ed Davis. Good rebounder, good shotblocker, good motor. Compared to PJ Brown. His production should be better, but he can add a lot of strength to his frame and just completed his sophomore year.

Bird's forte for drafting in the last few drafts has been on guys with high basketball IQ regardless of what position they play. They already had a smart piece in Danny Granger, then along the way got Hibbert and Rush, along with Hansborough.

A combo guard really would fit in well as our starting PG because of the high IQ of the players that guy would be surrounded by, but I don't see it happening at #10.

The only guys with high IQ worth taking that high are Monroe, Patterson, Henry, and Hayward.

I'd almost rather take a flier on a Willie Warren or Eric Bledsoe and hope they turn out to be great.(Warren has great potential, just was stuck in bad situation and Eric Bledsoe was just in the shadow of Wall,Cousins,Patterson) I don't want another safe pick, we need someone who can create his own shot and shots for others. Someone to get excited about. I feel as tho, Eugene Munroe would be an alright pick, but it would just make last years pick of T-Hans that much more frustrating when we missed out on multiple pg's...

I like Rush, but Bayless looks better and better every day. yeesh

I can remember the exact moment that the Bayless for Rush trade was announced. And the exact four letter word I used as well!

A one-year rental on JJ was not worth losing Bayless. Rush doesn't have the excuse of being young. As they say Bird likes to draft higher IQ upperclassmen because Shawne Williams made that booty hurt. I really could go on but as of right now Bayless plays fearless when given the minutes. Meanwhile Rush has all the tools to be like a Jimmy Jackson, but his hunger is low, just like his brothers.

As far as Davis goes, he has been projected as high as sixth because of comparisons to Horford. He seems like a solid selection if available.

What about Orten? 6'10" 250, he was buried behind Cousins and Patterson.

Another possibility is someone dropping, I'd love Wes Johnson.

Hell no to Daniel Orton, it's tough enough to devolpe one big man, we don't want to take on another.

Really like Paul George so far, but haven't seen enough of him. A report I read compared him to a Trevor Ariza/Danny Granger type, though the craziest comparison I heard was Tracy McGrady. I'd love to have him be the third wing in our rotation. 10 might be too early, and he definitely won't last till our second round pick so we would have to acquire another mid to late first to make it happen.

Draftexpress had a great write-up on him. Here's a little of their piece:

http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Pau ... eorge-5688
Most glaring are his limitations as a shot-creator. He has average stationary ball handling skills and is capable of dribbling the ball on the perimeter at the WAC level, but when it comes to exploding by his man and getting into the teeth of the defense – he presently lacks that skill set. He plays a bit too upright and must learn how to play lower to the ground, which should enhance his ability to utilize his athleticism. Tightening up his ball-handling skills and improving his ability to create in the half-court will be a key part of his development moving forward.

Another reason is his love for the 3 point shot. George attempts 5.8 3-pointers a game, 6th in our database amongst all small forwards. At least one or two a night is of the settling nature – either an attempt early in the shot clock or a quick look in transition with no teammates in position to rebound. As his attempts per game have increased from 4.1 to 5.8, his percentage has dipped from an absurd 44.7% last season to 35.8% this season—a pretty dramatic drop-off.

Remind you of anyone?

Also, numerous reports say he had a strong workout at the draft combine today.

I'd like Udoh or Al Fariq dude to drop to 10. That'd be cool.

There's a lot of interesting selections that will be made above us. A lot will depend of which route the Kings and Clippers go with their selections.

The only Kentucky big man that doesn't really have question marks is Patterson, at least to me. He has been groomed by a few coaches now and has been very consistent in his growth.

I'll pass on Ed Davis all day. If Wes Johnson fell to us, I'd be elated, but I fear Larry Bird would then trade our pick for 2 2nd round picks to spite my happiness.
