Pacer among 7 looking at Felton sign and trade...

Post#1 » by DWCP2 » Thu Jul 1, 2010 7:46 pm

New York
Miami
Dallas
New Jersey
Indiana
Memphis
LA Laker

These are the supposed teams that have looked at adding Felton, easy to eliminate who has a chance here.

Lakers and Dallas can only offer the MLE outright and don't have the assets to make a sign and trade willingly.

New Jersey nor Memphis have a starting PG spot for him available, but do have the money.

Miami and New York have the starting PG spot that could be available to him. However may not have the money once all the major free agents are signed and aquired.

Leaving Indiana, which has the money and the need for a major answer at PG. Only issue he may have here is they may only want to sign him for 3-4 years at best. They also have a coveted piece in TJ Ford.

Thoughts???

The Knicks could easily sncatch him up away from us. But If we do pull this off and dont give up too much, and sign Farmar, I would be optimistic about our pg situation for a couple years.

They tried to trade for him 3 times, once in Tornto and twice in Indiana latest being the last trade deadline in February.

The word "covet" isn't as far fetched as you think it is.

Could yes, but like I said at the top, will they have the money to do so? They may ony have MLE type dollars if that once they sign two max free agents, keeping in mind they still have Curry under contract.

I'm all for Felton. I'd be very happy if we were to trade TJ for Felton in a sign-and-trade.

Offer a deal within the 125% rule around and average of 6.5M to 7M for 3 to 4 years witih options.

Still save 1M this year.

Do you think Felton is wort that. Honestly, how much better does he make the pacers? I don't see him as much of an uprade to Ford and your giving him a similar contract.

The maximum he can get is 6.6 million with the 120% rule. Anything higher and he immediately goes to BYC. That's gonna be 900K greater then the MLE, which is the most teams over the cap can offer.

At 6.6 million with 528K increases (8% rule) his contract would look something like this.

6.6 million
7.128 million
7.656 million
(8.184 million)

= 21.4 million if 3 years
or
= 29.6 million if 4 years

7 million a season isn't that bad to pay for a solid PG in the prime of his career, plus I can't imagine with what O'Brien's system did for Jack what it can do for Felton.
I truly think it's between us and New York for his services, but if his 3 pt. shot is any indication, O'Brien can bring out the best in him
