The Hawks didn't give Joe Johnson the biggest contract in the NBA to then blow up the team, so I think acquiring Josh Smith would be very difficult for you guys.

That said, it would be worth exploring 3-way options. I also think Atlanta will want to dump Bibby (he's overpaid for what he produces now)... something that gets them a point guard and center in return for Josh Smith and Bibby, would work.
There is no consolation prize. Winning is everything.

Agree, any trade Atlanta would make this summer would have to at least in theory make them a more balanced, better team. Would Gortat and Calderon for Smith and Bibby make Atlanta better? This trade would up grade pg play and allow Horford to play exclusively at the 4. They would be less athletic but would have more traditional line up.

Josh Smith would be a nice fit. My main concern is that he gets paid a top amount for a second/third option kind of guy. Not sure if i'd like to invest so much of our space on him.

I think it would be tough for the Pacers to pry Smith loose from the Hawks. We don't have any good trade matchups IMO. About all the Pacers can offer the Hawks is a salary dump next summer. It remains to be seen whether the Hawks would prefer that to trading Smith for a good player at a position that doesn't overlap at all with Horford. Or maybe they'd prefer to just pay both Smith and Horford.

I think Horford would be a better fit for us. If he's still a free agent by next summer, the Pacers should throw big bucks at him and see if the Hawks are willing to match.
