what about chandler?

Post#1 » by jnzook » Tue Jun 14, 2011 3:50 pm

What up peeps? Haven't been active on here lately, been crazy busy with work and final exams. Not sure if anyone has ever brought this up, but personally I think chandler would be a great fa pick up for the pacers. He came into the league as a pf and could easily still play the position. And with hibbert as a good defender, passer, and a low post scorer and chandler as the athletic, high energy, great defender and rebounder..and scores on athletic plays and putbacks around the rim(where I and a lot of you got so pissed at hibbert about last season because he doesn't go up strong to the rim enough, chandler does just that). They are complete opposites, perfect compliments, and both at 7 feet we would have a nice twin tower scenario. What you all think?

I'd love to have him in the blue and gold, but good luck prying him away from Dallas, where he's the starting 5on the defending championship team. If we could pull it off, I'd be ecstatic, but maybe not considering the overpay we'd likely have to do.

Ya..im sure he'd rather stay with dallas..but with the uncertainty of the new cba and cap situatuion dallas could very well have no chance in hell of resigning him. Actually if they make a hard cap dallas and other teams such as the lakers, celtics, etc. could have to shed quite a bit of salary, but that's another topic altogether. Neway if he "can't" resign with the mavs id have to think wed be at the top of his list out of the teams that could sign him

Chandler sounds good, but we'd probably be choosing him over Roy soon. It's not plausible to pay two starting centers on one team.

Chandlers such the antithesis to Roy that I think they'd easily play next to each other. Chandler is mobile enough to guard either PF or C, and would be a great fit next to either of Hibbert and Hansbrough.

Here's Dallas' salary situation though. Right now, they have $60 million committed, with Chandler, Caron Butler, and JJ Barea as their free agents, and $1 million committed to their 1st round pick this year.

I see them ending up spending around $12 million on Butler and Barea combined (however it works out split between those two). At that point, they're already $3 million over this year's luxury tax without even talking about Tyson Chandler. Giving him $8 million in salary would mean that Dallas is paying another $8 million right away in luxury tax. That's a tough situation to be in. No matter how much they want to keep Chandler, and how much Cuban is willing to spend, I'm not sure he's willing to spend that for what is ultimately a backup big man there (when Haywood is healthy).

I think there's a valid opportunity to swoop in and offer something like $32 million over 4 years at a flat $8 million per, or even front load a TON of it this year, thus keeping open more cap space in the summer of 2012. I think there's a point where Dallas simply can't afford to keep him, and something like $8 million per certainly isn't too awful since he could still play something like 30 minutes a night next to both Roy and Tyler.

Tyson Chandler would be the starter whether Haywood is healthy or not. IDK how committing $35-40 million a year to 3 bigs, the youngest being 29, sounds to Dallas.

IDK as well if Dallas will try to resign Butler at the expense of possibly losing out on their starting center.

Both Kidd and Terry will be expirings next year. They could trade one of them or bite the bullet for one year and have more financial options again after.

Perhaps they find a buyer for Haywood.

I would find ways to resign this guy.

And we do have to keep in mind that if there's an owner very willing to spend, it's Mark Cuban.

@ 8 mill per, that wouldn't be half bad at all.

They'd have to find teams with pure cap space or massive TPE's to take on Terry or Kidd and give them pure cap space, as opposed to just other expirings that still hit their bottom line.

They're not going to find a buyer for Haywood. That guy just signed a long-term deal for big money, and doesn't have the season to back it up yet. They've got him for better or worse.

The only possible solution is that they simply either let Caron Butler walk (which I think is a huge mistake as well), or to re-sign Tyson Chandler, and simply pay a metric crap-ton in luxury tax.

The scenario that puts Chandler in play for us is a new CBA with a hard or harder cap that Dallas can't get under and pay Chandler a competitive salary. In that scenario we are right there. If that doesn't happen and you have a soft cap I don't see any way. Cuban isn't going to let a guy as key as Chandler get away. Money won't be an issue with him unless League rules make it that way.

I'm not completely convinced Chandler can guard 4's particularly the ones who can step out and shoot the 3. Injuries are a concern too. A 3/4 rotation of Hibbert, Hansbrough and Chandler is nevertheless intriguing.

Considering Dallas and their salary structure there may be an opening for chandler but does he want to play here in Indy? Could we offer say $10 a year declining for 4 say a total of $36-37 million and then there is the risk of Chandlers health, great producer yeah but does tend to get hurt a lot.

We can take one of Kidd or Terry. I lost track on what happened with Beaubois, but this might be a good time for them to rejuvenate the roster at some spots. With Chandler, you can still talk about a future on the Dallas team.

I think every team knows what Haywood is capable of. Give him starter minutes and he is a lot closer to earning the majority of his salary. Not every dollar of it, but other teams have similar contracts.
A JJ deal for Terry and Haywood is the first one that pops into my head.
Not very likely, but I feel the same way about Cuban not trying to keep Chandler.

If it comes down to Chandler vs. Butler, they won a championship with Chandler and without Butler...and while they showed signs of cracking without another go-to scorer, he's pretty much the anchor of their defense. It's a no-brainer to me.

Wilson Chandler would be the better fit in Indiana as of right now.
