Get involved in Howard trade?

Post#1 » by Action Paxson » Wed Dec 7, 2011 4:53 am

Hey all, I'm not a Lakers or Pacers fan. I'm a Bulls fan (you probably figured that out) and of course, an NBA fan. The Pacers are definitely knocking at the door of being that number 4 team in the East IMO. I see you as just a tweak away from getting there. However, I don't see getting a guy like Nene helping too much. He's an excellent man-defender and efficient scorer. Is he worth paying big bucks? IMO, no.

The Dwight circus (and Chris Paul) is taking over. I was curious if the Pacers should be interested in getting involved. They have a big hole at PF, and their two best players are SF's (If anyone appreciates Paul George, its Bulls fans, don't trade him).

So if the Lakers are offering Bynum and Gasol for Dwight, I imagine the Magic would prefer someone a little young than Gasol, like Granger. Would you do a Jones and Granger for Gasol? Then you still have room to offer a guy like Afflalo a big contract.

SF-George
SG-Afflalo
PG-Collison

I was just curious, and it didn't seem like its been discussed here. Best of luck this year. I feel that with this deal, you're number 4 in the East and could even pass Boston given their age (and compact schedule).

Absolutely zero interest in Pau Gasol.

I'd rather involve Danny in something for the other Gasol. And Afflalo is great, but I'm not he fits our needs at all.

No way. Gasol would be the third highest paid player in the NBA when his trade kicker goes into effect.

He's 31, played over 26,000 minutes, and never even won a playoff game as a number 1 option.

Why would the Pacers trade the younger, cheaper Granger, who did win a playoff game as a number 1 option for player who couldn't?

Nene's PER36 last season - 17.1pts/9.0rebs/2.3assts/1.3stls/1.1blks on 61.5% shooting

Gasol's PER36 last season - 18.3pts/9.9rebs/3.2assts/0.6stls/1.5blks on 52.9% shooting

Is that 1.2 points, 0.9 rebounds, 0.9 assts, 0.4 block PER36 worth Granger?

I'll take the younger cheaper Nene while also getting to keep Granger.

Plus a player like Afflalo shouldn't get a big contract. He's hardly an MLE player.

I doubt the Magic would care much between Danny or Pau. Those aren't guys they'd keep around long term, they'd attempt to flip them for even younger pieces and picks.

Anyways, I'd prefer Nene. Gasol is probably better, but Nene fits the team better and we don't have to give up Danny Granger to get him. This scenario seems like a rather lateral move.

Gasol is too old and expensive for the Pacers.

Plus, Afflalo is RFA and the Nuggets won't let him go.

We're not going to join in just to make life easier for other teams. It has to make sense for the Pacers, and Pau Gasol for Granger just doesn't make any sense for us right now.

Make it worth our while. Throw in some young value or solid picks if you want us to take on salary.

I have no interest in helping some other team acquire Paul or Howard unless it benefits the Pacers. Example if we were to take on Okafor and get paid to do it without giving up much. That's why I might consider taking on Hedo if we could get a few youngsters and or draft pick or 2.
