David West
have not seen that many games this season, but it seems like West's numbers are down, was wondering what you guys think of his play? Is he back healthy?

Re: David West
He's all healthy and still capable of 20 and 8 games, but we haven't needed him for that. He won't ever be as good again, though, being 31.

Re: David West
Very different team needs than 20/8. We've got Roy in the post, and Granger on the wings, with Collison, George, Hill, and Hansbrough all ready to pick up the slack any given night. He's been a solid veteran leader, though, which is exactly what we've needed.

Re: David West
and don't forget that he's been a good defender too. last summer I was a David West non-believer thinking we needed someone a little bigger who could also be a backup 5 but David has been everything we hoped for and more. he's been a great role model. he plays team offense putting wins above personal points and that encourages Granger to do the same. he defends. he passes. he talks to the younger players. plus, the team expects him to improve in the late season as he puts his injury further and further behind him. you might not want to put him on your fantasy team, but we're extremely glad to have him and hope he stays forever.

Love David West, but you wonder why he signed only a two year deal? Was it due to injury, the Pacers desired cap position, or perhaps his future and beyond is tied to Darren Collison being kept.
I'm think it hinges on Collison, but the Pacers I think are almost up on the man's play at the point knowing that Price plays way better defense and Stephenson is getting better each game he plays.

It has nothing to do with Collison and everything to do with not giving a 30+ year old big coming off knee surgery a long term deal.
He didn't ask for 2 years we offered it. It's looking like a great fit tho and a steal IMO. I thought we would get Nene and Nets would get West for about 4years/$43million. Nene wanted 4years/$60million from us. Bird said he wouldn't do $15 million per year.
So far West is putting up 12pts/7rebs/2assts/1stl/1blk in 29 minutes with a 16.9 PER and hasn't missed a game all season.
That's pretty good for a player coming of knee surgery, joining a new team, with limited practicing time, and playing with an awful point guard.
So far Nene is putting 13pts/8rebs/2assts/1stl/1blk in 30 minutes with a 16.5 PER and has missed 12 games this season.
Nene's numbers also are boosted since Denver plays at much faster pace.
12/7 for $20 million or 13/8 for $60 million?

Re: David West
Tyler Hansbrough?
He is like Foster with less size, but who you don't want to leave open.
A hyperkinetic player is just what Hibbert needs playing next to him and Tyler would be more effective playing with better offensive players.
In the future, Hansbrough and West might switch roles.
That is why I think we only offered West 2 years and Nene was our main FA target.

LOL, if Tyler Hansbrough is our long-term starter we're in trouble. Terrible defender, terrible defensive rebounder, terrible passer, black hole, terrible shot selection, gets away with a travel every play. I say we start Amundson. At least he tries to play help D.

I still think Hansbrough is the Pacers future at PF. Much like O'Brien was Hibbert's downfall thus his termination., Bird or at least his thinking, IMO is Hansbrough's. He's treating Tyler like he treated Al Harrington, wanting to keep him on the bench when in 2 years I think some team will take a liking to him and offer him a starting job if the Pacers don't offer him there's

Agree that Tyler isn't a starting power forward. Didn't always feel that way. West fits into an offensive scheem in that he can pass, create a variety of shots while bringing a physical presence. Tyler stops the ball too much which I don't mind when he's out there Jones, Price and Stephenson. But when Granger, George and Hibbert are in you want the ball moving.
If we had another scorer on the floor with the second unit Amundson brings equal energy and hustle. In short Tyler is expendable if you add the right piece.

It was our firm demand. We almost lost out on David West because we would only offer a 2 year deal due to wanting cap flexibility. That was when he then entered deep negotiations with Boston, but Boston could not work out a S&T for him with New Orleans. Thus, we ultimately won out with our firm stand. It was a little luck, or possibly just knowing the market and NO situation well enough.
