Can you give an overview?

Basically Jackie MacMullan and JA Adande saying the Celtics need to go out and get Chris Paul now, even if he isn't going to sign an extension, because if they do, it gives them a great opportunity to win a title this year with KG, Pierce and Allen, and if he does walk, they'll have tons of cap room available. No mention of the Pacers, but im guessing Indy2thewindy suggesting if they do get Paul, we'd be back in the mix to get Rondo.

Wasn't that an "Around the Horn" excerpt from like a week ago? I would do that deal from the trade board. That's a lot of money for Okafor, but that's the kind of contract people are talking about for Nene anyway and Okafor's a better rebounder. We do have to pay Hibbert at some point, but Hill would be expendable with Rondo on the team.

Assuming IND could land Nene what would Pacer fans thoughts be on Collison and Hibbert for Rondo?

I am mostly thinking about this because IND seems like a perfect fit for Rondo long term with the scoring talent you have and the need to kind of get the ball out of Granger's hands. If you had Granger, George and Nene and the two Carolina boys up front and Hill coming off the bench you start to look pretty good.

Most Celtic fans won't like it but we need help in the middle real bad and we need more offense. Collison and Hibbert are both better scorers than Rondo and Collison can pass the ball well enough. Boston would also have Collison/Avery Bradley/Jeff Green/Jajuan Johnson/Hibbert going forward.

What do we do then for a center?

Really, Nene is being lured as a PF, who can step up to center around 15 minutes a night so that Hansbrough can get his minutes at the 4 spot. I'm not moving Collison/Hibbert for Rondo. I'd move Granger in a deal for Rondo before Hibbert.

There's a new article up on ESPN about Chris Paul trades by Brousard and Stein.

Interesting info:

The Golden State Warriors have effectively withdrawn from the Paul sweepstakes by stressing to the Hornets that they simply won't include star guard Stephen Curry in any deal with New Orleans. And sources told ESPN.com that none of the other teams known to be Paul's most ardent suitors sufficiently sweetened their trade offers Wednesday, despite the fact that it's now an open secret around the league that the Hornets want to move Paul before the season starts Christmas Day

Various executives believe that the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers are thus the two most likely landing spots for Paul

The Celtics, sources say, are currently presenting the strongest offer, which features Rajon Rondo, Jeff Green and two first-round picks

Here's the part most relevant to us:
The Hornets' interest in Rondo is lukewarm at best, but one scenario in circulation would involve the Indiana Pacers and route former Hornets point guard Darren Collison back to New Orleans and land Rondo with the Pacers and Paul with the Celtics. Yet several other players would have to be involved to make such a deal work -- with more established talent going to New Orleans -- and there was no indication Wednesday that such a deal was close to completion.

It keeps coming up that the Hornets seem interested in getting Darren Collison back. The trade board often has us giving up all kinds of assets along with Collison (Granger/George/Hibbert/etc...) but these more "official" rumors usually have us giving up scraps.

but buried early on in the article before all the C's and Lakers speculation is this:
sources with knowledge of New Orleans' thinking said late Wednesday that the Hornets are prepared to wait for offers to improve, convinced that they they're getting low-ball proposals at this early stage of the process based on the external belief that they're so motivated to move Paul they will rush into a deal.

I don't get why they wouldn't just prefer Rondo to whatever pieces we'd be sending back in these other rumors. I'd love to get Rondo if it cost us Collison, Hansbrough and pick(s) but I doubt our additions are enough to get that trade done.

They want to tank and draft a potential superstar that could make the franchise more appealing to a buyer. Rondo doesn't do that and he's like Granger, he can more than likely lead a bad team to 30+ wins.

Per Wojo deal involving us would look something like Darren Collison, Tyler Hansbrough, Brandon Rush & 2 1sts from Boston to New Orleans, Rondo to Indy, CP3 to Boston.

And Boston may be willing do this without prior extending CP3?

I would do this and not even blink from a Pacers prospective. Love Tyler, like DC but Rondo is an upgrade and FA is PF heavy - McRoberts or Landry can replace Tyler. We become more attractive to Nene.

So, in a few hour span, Angels sign Pujols and CJ Wilson, and also, in a few hour span, we lose out on Rondo and Nene. lol... figures.

Denver can have him for the max.
And Boston can keep Rondo if they want Hans, Darren and 1 of our SF's.

I just hope Bird didn't give West the feeling he was at the bottom of their wish list.

used this old thread
to maybe gather new
thoughts if we should
make a move on acquiring
rondo; since his name
has come up a lot lately.

considering all that's
taken place this year,
i think he would still
make us better.

LB likes him, too.

if ever, what do you
think will be the cost
for acquiring him now?

It is hard to gauge what Boston wants. I'd be willing to go Collison/Hansbrough/1st. Boston would save money, principally. I think trading Granger or West for him would benefit no one, and Hibbert and George are not going to be moved.

Can't imagine there isn't a better deal out there for Rondo someplace. But if this deal presented itself you'd have to do it.
