I'd much rather renew Barbosa for something like half of what Gordon might make. I know he's not the scorer EJ is but I like getting the leadership of veterans who have been there.

However, I think people are confused and thinking in the old CBA. If Eric Gordon signed a max contract with us, he would be the 2nd highest paid player on our roster. Danny Granger would be paid more. No one really complains about Danny's contract....

My understanding is that Eric Gordon's max contract would be 25% of the cap under the new CBA (he doesn't qualify for the 30% ala Durant, Rose); if the cap is $58m, that means he'll start at $14.5m.

With 4.5% raises, it would be:

$14.5m / $15.15m / $15.7m / $16.35m

In any case, I believe that is more than the $13,058,606 / $14,021,788 remaining for Granger.

Is it? I was taking a max of $12.9 million for a player with 0-6 years of service off of Sham's website. According to that number, Eric Gordon would get $100 grand less than Danny would next year.

I'm not sure where that Shamsports data comes from - I guess we need to wait for Larry Coon to fully upgrade his salary cap FAQ.

I found the info on the wiki, and also here:

NBA Labor ‏ @NBA_Labor
.@WojYahooNBA: According to tentative agreement, max contracts 4 plyrs w/ < 6 yrs service are 25% of cap (30% if certain criteria met)

I think NOH will match whatever on Gordon anyway, otherwise they'd look really, really foolish.
There is no consolation prize. Winning is everything.

It is probably likely that New Orleans matches, but with a new owner (and probably other executives coming it) it isn't likely that they'll care about looking foolish. Gordon isn't necessarily their guy.
