Absolutely not. In return for a backup center playing well this season and our leading scorer last season, we get an aging player who probably only has a few years left in the tank. Maybe if we got a more lucrative piece like Avery Bradley, it would sweeten the deal, but as it stands, we are hurt much more than we are helped.

I don't think there's any deal to be made between the Pacers and Celtics honestly unless it's something minor and pointless like Psycho T for Bass.

I can see why you'd want Mahinmi, but why Granger? He won't be back until February at the least and losing Pierce's scoring would leave you with what as scoring options until he comes back? Green? Terry?

I believe that Paul Pierce should retire as a Celtic. He has spent his whole career there.

Mankind..."

I can't imagine the Celts doing that with Granger out all season so far. What would Pierce do? If it would put us in a position to win the title I might go for it but I don't think it will do it.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but you guys seem to think that the Celtics would get the bad end of the deal here, but the Pacers don't get anything worthwhile in this deal. We lose a back-up center, we lose Granger, while we gain an aged ex-superstar. He's can only go down from here, while Mahinmi and Granger can only go up.

I suggested on the trade board the following:

Granger, Mahinmi, Hansbrough

for

Green, Bass, Fab, Bradley, Jason Collins

Celtics run the rondo/terry/lee/pierce/granger/garnett/sullinger/hansbrough/mahinmi to a championship, if they can.

In terms of who is playing for their team right now, it's basically replacing green/bass with Hansbrough/Mahinmi. But when Granger comes back they'll have him too (just as Indy will have Bradley when he comes back.)

Pacers move on from the Granger era. Sounds a bit crazy, but Granger is expensive and might not be what he used to. Clearly the team is at least OK without him. Both Bass and Green serve as very good insurance against in case West leaves. He'll be a free agent, and though he's our best player right now, he's also our oldest, and he may be looking for the biggest decent payday he can get, and it might not be from the Pacers.

Pair Jeff Green back up with Roy Hibbert. I know it's generally not a great idea to try and turn back clocks, but I really think this one could work. Some people are saying "OMG GREEN HAS A TERRIBLE CONTRACT" but hey, it's like the same as George Hill's. If Green can become a starting PF, is it that bad? What if he can become a 13/7 guy with good defense? That's not so bad.

Bass backs him up - more West insurance.

Bradley meanwhile becomes our massively needed 3rd guard behind Hill and Stephenson. Bradley fits our team philosophy very well and takes all the augustin/hansbrough minutes that we've disgustedly seen.

Fab Melo could be a center someday

Assuming West walks that would leave Pacers 2013-14 team as:

Hill/Bradley
Stephenson/Bradley/Green
George/Green/Green
Green/Bass
Hibbert/Melo/Plumlee

What's interesting is to note that a re-signed West (let's be conservative and say 9 million a year) plus Granger is like, 22 million in that season, while green/bass/bradley/melo is only like 18 million. Melo and Bradley are on those cheap contracts.

I really like Avery Bradley and think he makes the trade worthwhile.

I think it'd be dumb to move Granger before seeing how he plays after his injury first. If he's not what he used to be, then fine, but if he's just as good as he used to be, George + Granger on the wing is really good.
