THIS JUST IN: Pacers F Danny Granger will miss the remainder of the season to undergo surgery on his left knee.

Woulda been nice just to get this done to start with, way back after the playoffs a year ago. I guess you never know with this type of injury though.

not worried about trade value sinking as any trade would have required a physical which he wouldn't have passed. with hindsight obviously we wish the surgery had been done long ago. his contract could be over before he's back to 100%.

But maybe that's a good thing... if his contract ends before he's 100%, teams likely will be unwilling to pay him big money because of his injury. That may allow us to get him for cheaper. Of course, it's not good for him to be injured for such a long period of time.

Bad news but at least this puts everything iced in place. This just makes our rotation of guys more defined. Hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Pretty bizarre that he went from coming back to being out for the year in a span of 24 hours. Oh well, we've played pretty well without him so far this season. It's definitely a blow in terms of trying to beat the Heat though.

Tells me that Vogel isn't completely on the same page with the training staff and/or Granger.

Vogel's concern is the morale of the guys who are playing. oh, he doesn't want to anger Danny when he is able to play, but he had some serious emotional issues to deal with first when Danny's return was hanging over the 2nd unit's head, and now when they could easily get their heads down knowing Danny will be out for the playoffs. that we've just won three road games tells me that Vogel has done a good job dealing with the loss.

Sounds to me like a disconnect. Say what you want about morale, it just reads plain as day to me that Vogel and the trainers were not communicating at all on what was ACTUALLY happening with Granger's recovery.

I don't know the inside story. there could have been miscommunication. there could have been too much optimism. there could have been some cheerleading to keep everyone's spirits up. the important thing is we've ripped off three road wins since the announcement so the bottom line is good.

Scoot, everybody expected Granger to try to play, but they knew it was coming close to a go/no-go decision. The morning of the Rockets game, Granger woke up, had pain in his knee, and made the call that he couldn't play through it.

He then notified the team, that he was done. It seems that even Danny thought, or at least hoped, he was going to play when Vogel made his announcement on the day before. And then, he couldn't.

Is this injury even related? That was an ankle injury, this is a knee. I'm all for throwing the Heat under the bus when warranted, but I don't think this is the same. Granger had some red flags on his knee coming out of New Mexico State, maybe things just finally caught up to him.

I still just find it odd that Vogel stated it as a certainty when it was still very much up in the air, obviously. Something had to either have happened, or it shouldn't have been labelled a certainty that he was playing the following day to begin with.

It came across as if Vogel was under the impression that Granger was fine and coming back, and then the team announced he wasn't. It seemed as if Vogel and the training staff weren't on the same page, or Vogel and Granger. To one side, it was a go/no-go kind of thing, and to the other, it was a matter of "Go tomorrow for sure".
