Report- Toronto wants Kevin Pritchard

Post#1 » by Grang33r » Fri May 24, 2013 5:05 pm

Per CBS Sports.

Sources: Raptors pursuing Pacers GM Kevin Pritchard

MIAMI -- The Toronto Raptors have asked permission to interview Pacers general manager Kevin Pritchard to head up their basketball operations, league sources told CBSSports.com on Friday.

As with similar requests from teams to speak with assistant coach Brian Shaw for head coaching vacancies, the Pacers have indicated that they prefer to wait until their season is over to grant permission for interviews. The Pacers trail the Heat 1-0 in the Eastern Conference finals, with Game 2 on Friday night in Miami.

Pritchard, the former Trail Blazers GM who was hired by the Pacers at the behest of former team president Larry Bird, is said to be extremely happy in Indiana. The Raptors recently overhauled their front-office structure, moving team president Bryan Colangelo to a role on the business side and opening up the search for a new head of basketball operations.

The article does say he is happy in Indiana and also in this article by yahoo sports, seems like Ujiri is Toronto's top choice... http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--nugge ... 04856.html

Pritchard has a respectable track record running an NBA franchise. Having both Walsh and Pritchard has never made sense to me. Our experience with two high profile guys running the show is not good. See Pacer personnel decisions made between 2003 through 2007. I'd hate to lose Pritchard because someone else offered him the top spot and the reason he doesn't have that title here is our marriage to Donnie Walsh.

Walsh has taken the back seat here in day to day stuff and has worked as more of a "big picture" kind of guy. He'll walk away willingly if Bird will come back. If not, Pritchard is already essentially in barge of personnel here, and it's a simple life in Indy.

If he wants to go, we can't really stop him. I'm not sure he really wants to go as he could work with Bird as well as Walsh.

Should be noted, that according to the wiretap, the Raptors hiring of Ujiri as General Manager seems imminent. http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/22 ... th-Raptors

I'm not sure how much heavy lifting Walsh is even conducting at this point. It seems like Pritch has a lot of control with our ops right now.
