But for some reason I can't get Lance's reckless play out of my head. The whole "when he's good he's good amd when he's bad he's REALLY bad" thing scares me. I've seen him throw the ball away so many times when he's the facilitator on the 2nd unit and just make so many bad decisions that I don't feel 100% great about resigning him for big money.
Convince me he is the right player for us, and also, if we lose him to FA, who else could we get to win NOW?

Yes, as I've said before he's not ready to lead the second unit but he's playing great on the first unit. My hope is Danny becomes the second unit leader although scola could do it too when he gets used to the players. Lots of new guys on that unit so give 'em time.

Re: You can say I'm jumping the gun
Lance Stephenson is a 23 year old dynamic player. He is the true point guard and G hill is the off guard although their size and position says otherwise. I appreciate that he isn't afraid to play and take his risks. He is a big reason why the team made the ECF last season and part of the reason they have championship hopes this season. The knock on the team from outsiders looking in is that we don't have a true point guard and that G hill should be replaced. Stephenson's floor vision and aggressive nature makes it work and is the barometer of the teams performance according to Vogel and many experts. Bad games happen with any player. If you replace Lance with an average defensive minded 2 guard or a score first guy this offense or team isn't as dynamic. Not to mention if they can keep the foundation of Hibbert, George and Stephenson together they will likely contend for a lot more seasons with their growth together. And furthermore he loves playing for the Pacers and wants to be there. Everyone else will get older and retire or is replaceable. I hope that the team doesn't make the same mistake OKC made with Harden.

Stephenson leads the league in triple-doubles this season.
We can't get anyone like him.

Not to downplay that at all, but Bobby Sura was nicknamed "Mr. Triple Double" for awhile, that alone doesn't make someone a great player. It's awesome for sure for Lance, but doesn't excuse bad pass after bad pass after bad foul.
Don't take me as a negative nancy or anything, I love Lance and I love what he's doing, but I just feel like in the playoffs, against dialed in teams like the Heat, those will cost us wins more than he getting a triple double will win us a game.

Re: You can say I'm jumping the gun
I think there is plenty of criticism still to be levelled at Lance. But I want to keep him a Pacer for the following reason: Potential. He is a slow learner compared to George and I agree, he has some irritating aspects to his game that he really does need to learn to lose from his game. On the other hand, if he can become more level-headed and target all that energy when and where it is appropriate he is going to be a very important player on any team.
I think a lot of GMs will see exactly that and be prepared to offer him decent money, what they should take into account though is the Vogel factor: Lance is playing for one of the teams that is genuinely good at developing players, he still needs developing, so why would he want to go?

Vogel is Dutch for Bird.

Lance also claims he's not going anywhere no matter what, and through social media outlets has nothing but love for all of his teammates and coaches. He genually LOVES playing for the Pacers and with these guys. Same goes for pretty much the entire starting 5.

It works because we have the option of sitting him when he's making dumb plays. He's sat a good chunk of a couple games this season because of it.
