Chicago (Best record in the NBA the last 2 years Rose has played, great defense/rebounding)
Miami (Basically the same roster that has won back to back championships)
Brooklyn (Lopez is a beast on offense, Williams should be better, added some talented vets)
Atlanta (Underrated - Horford, Millsap, Korver, Teague, Williams - no weak spots there)
Cleveland (Irving is already a star, great young talent, Bynum is a huge addition)
Indiana (Play great D, rebound very well, possibly the worst backcourt in the NBA)
Detroit (Monroe/Drummond is a deadly combo. Deep backcourt, Smith is the wildcard)
New York (Melo... JR is decent, Chandler isn't bad, otherwise a thin and kind of awkward roster)

Miami, obvious
NY, solid team during the RS, they have improved also.
Indiana, talented, deep, better suited for PO than RS, lack of superstars.
Brooklyn, rookie coach, a lot of guys need to adjust to lesser roles, old team, non athletic.
Washington, if they are healthy, they are the next team on the line.
Detroit, questionable fits, but talented enough.
Atlanta, a really solid team, even without stars.
Toronto, they have talent, but the roster has no balance, and the coaching is questionable at least.
Cleveland, injury prone guys, too young team, defense will be horrid even with Mike Brown there.
Milwaukee, not flashy, but solid, they have shooters and interior defense.
Charlotte, they have improved, but is not enough.
Boston, no shooter, no interior defense, no Rondo, Bradley or Sullinger for the first months.
Orlando, just young guys trying to play without caring about positions.
Philadelphia, worst team in a while, they have nothing.

Pretty much what I think and for the same reasons, the only change I'd do is Hawks taking the 7th spot and Bucks the 8th wit Pistons and Raps fighting for 9th. Also, Pacers and Knicks could be interchangeable

Paul George and George Hill are a bad backcourt? oh, you were thinking Lance Stephenson was our two? he'll get plenty of minutes there but PG will guard the best wing regardless of whether that's a two or a three, and we expect PG and DG to be on the floor together when the game is on the line. besides George Hill is an excellent defender. I suspect you are judging totally on the basis of offense and our team is built around defense - and power.

Worst backcourt? What about Philly, Orlando, Detroit, Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Lakers (minus Kobe), New York, Milwaukee, Memphis, Phoenix, Sacramento, Toronto, and Utah? I'd say out combo is as good or better than all those listed. And I was thinking of a Hill/Lance backcourt, not even subbing in George or Granger.

The Pacers bring back and ever improving PG, a much improved Hibbert over what started last season, add Scola and Stephenson to the bench and let's not forget the guy who lead the team in scoring for the prior 5 years in Danny Granger. All of that and someone thinks they'll finish no higher then 5th. in the east.
It's a 2 team race between the Heat and the Pacers but I think the Pacers will take the East this year. The Bulls will be a distant 3rd. Everyone just wants to assume that Rose will be back to superstar form from day 1 after his surgery but forgets about Granger. I don't see either player being quite as effective but the Pacers have more talent to offset that and simply don't need Granger to the point that Chicago needs Rose. I see the nets finishing 4th with NY 5th.

1. Pacer's great balance divides chances for outstanding statistical marks individually but their work as a team will shine!
2. Expectations for PG are a little over the top and Danny's renewed zeal and perspective makes him our early MVP.
3. Scola will be a big breath of fresh air just when we need it.
4. The Heat's luck will run out. They'll have a good season of course but nagging health problems will be blamed for their demise. They still fight for first place, but may finish third. HCA looks tenuous, and the title gets away from them. But
5. EC champ's will bring home the O'brian again.
6. Chicago and Boston are fifty/fifty to flame out for health/age issues.
One does well, (maybe to ECF) but the other squeeks in and fades.
....and for (Lucky) no -
7. Pacer's are in tune and take a surprise early lead. Growing pains cost them the lead mid way through but they look strong and surge to the end, get second place finish heading to the playoffs and think they deserve better.

Does anyone want to change their prediction, halfway through pre-season, before I bookmark this thread?

I'd make some minor adjustments to reflect changes since I wrote them (Thunder down a little with injuries, Spurs up a little, etc), but mostly they'd be the same.

That's a weird thing to say. Besides, even if you bookmark it, they could always edit it later and you'd just always see the newest edit.

Knicks are worse than I thought they'd be, although I didn't think they would be a 50-win team again anyway. Nets looking like they could finish about where I would have guessed in October. Cavs worse than I thought they'd be, Toronto and Charlotte better. And Rose's injury ruined Chicago's season.

Here's my revised playoffs prediction:

1. Pacers
2. Heat
3. Nets
4. Raptors
5. Wizards
6. Bulls
7. Hawks
8. Knicks

A Pacers-Heat showdown in the ECF looks pretty inevitable.

Can't believe I didn't post in the original, perhaps I put my predictions in another thread.

Regardless, in the East I had Miami top and somehow I still feel they might do it, we are looking like a struggling team at the moment and might well drop a 3-4 game streak.

I still think the Nets are going to squeeze in, but I was very, very wrong about that other NY team. Raptors look better since the Gay trade, but I think they are due a reality check and I can see them slipping to 8th. On the other hand I still believe the Cavs and Wiz are able to put a run together. This leaves my play-off prediction looking like this:

Miami
Indiana
Brooklyn
Hawks
Wizards
Bulls
Cavs
Raptors

BTW: my price for most improved team goes to Charlotte, who I could see get to 8th, pushing the Raps up a spot at the expense of the Cavs.
Vogel is Dutch for Bird.

Return to Indiana Pacers
