Scola: Stay or go?

That is regarding Scola's contract guarantee. Only $1.941m would hit Pacers cap.

I hope he goes... But like Wizop said, unless Lance gets a big enough contract to put us into the tax, no reason not to have him around. You can always hope he revives his mid range game, I guess.

So letting him walk doesn't really save that much against the cap. Yeah, if you need the money to stay under the cap with Lance letting him go makes sense, otherwise we'd be pretty hard pressed to improve on him for the money saved.

I'd like see him play more at center. He does a much better job of banging with bigger guys than he does keeping quicker guys in front of him. We'd give up a lot on defense Scola vs Mahamni but we'd be much better on offense.

This is a tough decision because his ability to score is valuable. But I would part ways with him for two reasons.

1. The extra cap relief could be valuable in retaining Stephenson.

2. Lavoy Allen is 25 yrs old; and could potentially fill his role on offense with better rebounding as well as better defense. I understand Scola is probably the better offensive guy. But Allen could bring some energy and hustle to the second unit. Also he has developmental potential; he could end up being the PF of the future after West leaves.

$3m is a lot of cap space when toeing against the tax line. Especially when Scola only makes $4.9m to begin with.

I agree with you as to the gist of the Pacer decision. Depends, if you think he can fix his shot over the summer. I really like the guy shooting 40-45% on his midrange shots. Not so much when he's insanely inconsistent and often times in the 20's.

I see both of them as poor defenders, but Cope has more guaranteed money, while Scola either could be waived easy, or probably tagged along with Lance in a S&T and the other team pays his buyout.

I think you're with the majority of fans when it comes to this. We would all love to see Cope take Scola's minutes. The question is will the Pacers give Cope a legitimate shot.

Agree with Cope getting more minutes. We need to include the stretch guys more into the flow and the game plan.

Yeah if we are looking at it putting us in the tax then Scola's gone but keep in mind we need a back up 4 even if we are looking at using Cope in that capacity we'd still need a big PF in the event of foul trouble. Part of me wants to keep Scola and then look to move him at the trade deadline if he's not a big contributor at that point.

We need to carry 3 centers and 3 PFs for depth. 2 PG's 2 SF's and 2 SG's with guys that can be swingmen.

I see 13 as 3 point guards (1 could be a 1/2 swing), 2 shooting guards, 1 2/3 swing, 2 small forwards, 2 power forwards, 2 centers, and 1 4/5 swing.

it is starting to look like we'd have to free up more cap space than is possible without a major trade to keep Lance. I expect Scola to stay now. I hope we figure out a better way to allocate minutes so that our older players stay fresh but when they are used they get enough minutes to get in rhythm. perhaps Scola should start say once a week.
