Evan Turners Future
I am a Sixer and Pacer fan...I have followed Evan Turner most of his career...I was sad to see him relegated to last man on the bench...although he played and practiced with the Pacers while he was here, the coach did not put him in in the last blowout loss.He was I believe the only man who did not play.
I would like to see him remain a Pacer, but I have the feeling coach does not like him...What do most of you think will happen to him?
I always thought he should have played the guard position. Thoughts

Re: Evan Turners Future
We'll make every effort to sign Lance Stephenson which leaves next to nothing for Turner. If Lance gets an offer we can't match, Turner may be Plan B, but otherwise few see him back.

Re: Evan Turners Future
After the draft during a Q&A, Larry Bird was asked about bringing back the core. He talked about liking/wanting to keep around Lance and Lavoy, specifically mentioning each by name. And the transcript I read about the interview, he never once mentioned Evan Turner in the same context.
I highly doubt that Turner is back next season. I've heard him referred to as Plan B. In my opinion, it should be more like plan C considering Kyle Lowry will be out there and signing him could keep Hill and slide him to the 2.

Re: Evan Turners Future
I doubt Evan will be back, and assume we won't even extend a qualifying offer. He was a horrible fit, and even losing Lance wouldn't have that. He needs to play PG here, but he's such a bad fit in he grand scheme otherwise as a PG that he's a net negative.

Re: Evan Turners Future
I think a good deal of the Turner problem was that the rotation was designed in a way that put the ball in Lance's hands when Evan was in the game. if we can't sign Lance, I can see a Hill and Turner backcourt. we're not short of posts saying Hill would be better at the 2 and Turner could be a ball handling complement to George. on defense the roles would reverse.

Yup. But the fact that Turner can't guard a chair is a severe issue, no matter how you try and hide him.

It's official. No qualifying offer. As such, Evan will be an unrestricted free agent.

Bird said something to the effect of Turner being a 17 point a game guy in the right system and then wished him luck out there in free agency a while ago. I'll try to dig up the article.

No wishing of luck, I got that wrong...
“The problem you get into when you do these deals is when you bring guys in that are used to playing 30-35 minutes and are all of a sudden down to 12 or 14, are they going to be able to handle that? … Evan seemed like he had to get into the flow of the game before he really got it going. I'm a firm believer. I love his game because he can do a little bit of everything. Whatever happens, wherever he's at next year, if he plays 30-35 minutes he's going to average 17 points.”

It just smelled to me like a, "we've washed our hands of that," kind of quote.
I would see no reason not to inquire with his agent about s+t opps though.

Re: Evan Turners Future
he signed with Boston for a portion of the MLE. that's a huge drop in money. that we preferred Miles and Rudez says a lot although I suppose it is possible that he was still expecting a bigger offer at that time. it wouldn't surprise me a bit if Brad Stevens finds a better way to use him than we did.

Stevens will maybe help, but the situation won't. He's simply not effective if he doesn't have the ball in his hands throughout the offensive possession. Is that going to happen at all with Rondo, Smart, Bradley, etc?

Re: Evan Turners Future
I see Turner being a Point Guard in the NBA he needs the right team. I felt like after lance left we could have plugged him in at Point and then used hill more at the SG. But after Miles signed it was pretty much over for Turner and Lance.

I agree that Turner has immense talent and with the right frame of mind he could be a distributive type of player. Like a point forward or something.
The main problem with him is that he has tunnel vision when handling the ball and his attitude is definitely not conducive to building meaningful chemistry. Plus he would have a very difficult time defending 1's when he can't even adequately defend 2's or 3's.
Turner needs a coach like Pop or Thibs, one that will hold him accountable. I'm afraid Brad, much like Vogel, may not command his respect.
I'm glad he is gone. I want team players to fill out the roster, not players who are determined to only play well for themselves at the expense of others. This goes against the whole concept of what a team is.

Re: Evan Turners Future
I'm betting Turner is traded by Boston by the All Star game.
