And speaking of seeing value in players others can't
Cost effective players that can complement your best players and strengthen the team weaknesses

Is Ragland still a long range specialist that doesn't take care of the ball well? How else has he massively improved since he left Wichita State?

Mavs fan here,

I was wondering if you guys would have any interest in one of our players Gal Mekel? He is a Euro player who is very much a pass first PG, he is tall, long, and average defensively, but does lack a 3PT shot as of now. He is only 25 and on a rookie contact for the next 3 years. I was wondering if there would be a combo of Him + either Brandon Wright or Felton would interest you for a SnT for Evan Turner?

I have no idea about your current cap situation or your additional signing, but outside of a consistent 3pt shot, Mekel is a cheap solution to your problems.

not sure Mekel gives us anything more than Sloan although I've not seen him play and we sure don't want Felton. we will need someone if Lance walks but I think we'd be looking for a 5th starter and not a backup.

One of our biggest issues is the players perceived value based on the contract they have signed.

There is ZERO chance that we bring George Hill off the bench. Either he starts at the 1, the 2 or is traded.

If he starts at the 1, we lack the ball handling, passing and simple offensive leadership we need on offense.

If he starts at the 2, we are small on defense, Lance is gone

If he is traded, and we land a true PG than I would be pleased.

I still want us to land Rajon....while he lacks the 3ball, he is great with the handle and great on defense.

Well, probably not. For us, Mekel would be more of a 3rd PG, and we already have a ton of guaranteed contracts at the 4/5. West, Hibbert, Mahinmi, Allen, Scola ($2m guaranteed), Copeland, and even Whittington. Adding Wright isn't something we need at all, and is really just clogging the roster, right now. We also have 14 roster spots filled for next year already without signing Lance, and we're only $4m under the luxury tax. A S&T of Turner for Wright and Mekel adds $6m we don't have for players we don't need. Unfortunately, even if we didn't renounce Turner, we could only send him your way for your cap space. No returning salary. Or we'd have to send you more salary to do so. Want Scola?

Is that $4million under the cap counting Scola's full contract or the $2 million or so that is guaranteed?

It would be nice to see Jameer make the playoffs.

Nelson will sign with the Mavs tomorrow. Any interest in Felton for Mahinmi trade? Felton has better number and more success. His contract is 1M cheaper. The length of the deal is the same. While the Mavs doesn't need 5 PG without C/PF, this deal may be appealing to them. Though Mahinmi has bad seasons with you guys, he's some success under RC in the past. And we're in need of a backup big. Felton, in all his faults, is starting PG for a decade. If you can get him back in shape, he'll improve tremendously. His number last season is not all that bad if you take a closed look at.

You may decide between signing Mo Williams (if he agrees to that much discount) or dumping Mahinmi. I expect you guys to consider such trade. It's a both-win situation.
