Holy. I thought we signed him because he's different from Hibbert and Mahinmi? Never really know this guy but if that's the case then we'll have very little use of him.

I agree; I read all the descriptions of his skill set and imagined Troy Murphy. According to this article he is capable of making the three and medium range jumpers but if it isnt his strength then what is it? Because his size isnt reliable enough to give him the ball on the block. At least according to a couple of articles about him. I havent heard about him being a defender.

Maybe he shot well at the Portsmouth Invitational, but at college, he stretched as far as the mid post and a touch further. Nowhere close to shooting college 3's. But he apparently impressed at Portsmouth, so maybe he added that since he wrapped up at WMU.

Both of these articles refer to Whittington as being a stretch 5, but hilariously the first article lists his 3point shooting stats as 6/33 18% on the season.

Interesting and short article on a performance when he was under the weather. Sounds like a quality young man.

Apologies if any of these have been posted.

It's very possible he had the talent to be a stretch 5 at WMU, but the coach has a system where he wants the center to play inside. For example, I knew a 4 year starter up there just a few years ago and on one of the All-MAC teams at center. Had the talent to play high post and jump shoot out to the 3 pt line, but the coach (I believe the current one still there) had him stick his butt in the low post all day and all night.

Funny story, that kid now plays Offensive Line for your Indianapolis Colts. Joe Reitz, of Hamilton Southeastern High School, originally.
