This team Will be better than last year's

Post#1 » by davidfr94 » Tue Jul 29, 2014 8:56 pm

Hi new member here (excuse me for my english i'm french)

I wanted to Know what you were all thinking about the roster moves and next year's team.

To me, it is going to be better. Let me explain : while loosing lance is for sure a big blow
It Will really help pur chemistry. George Will be releived not to play with someone looking to proove he is the next magic Johnson. I hope the miles and stuckey signing Will make up for lance's départure (at least statistically)
We have added shooters (miles stuckey the euro Guy) we were clearly missing after the granger trade

Overall, This team Will Know where to go with George being the only clear 1st option and Hibbert the 2nd (if he CAN regain his former Level).
With Miami returning to earth, i think we can hope to play the finals finally.
The only thing that could stop us is vogel's coaching and the play of scola and ian.

To finis i Will say that i'm pretty otpimistic for the upcoming year.

(Again im sorry for my english)

We can only hope.

But we're going to be hard pressed for scoring this year. Someone's going to have to step it up and help PG out, and whether it's Hill, CJ Miles, or Hibbert, I don't really know.

I think you are definitely attuned to the Pacers strengths and weaknesses. Of course many media pundits are dismissing the Pacers, and quite frankly I can't thank them enough for taking pressure off of us and putting it on others.

I wish I could converse in a second language such as French as well as you speak English, or any other language for that matter. Oh well, welcome to the board.

I reckon we'll be better.

The people dismissing us think Lance was the best player on our team or some ****.

Miles and stuckey are pretty good scorers, the fact that we Will have more shooters on the floor Will help our spacing leading to better one and one opportunities for our bigs inside and for our guards to attack

Last year our offensive scheme was too often "let Lance carry the ball up and do something with it."

This year we still have plenty of players that can put the basketball through the hoop. How we choose to get them the ball will probably determine whether or not they do.

Bonjour,

We will be better IF Vogel gets a good offensive strategy i to the team. Defensively we are still very good, but we need to find some killer instinct on offense so we can capitalise on it.

Miles and Stuckey are OK signings, but I am not convinced they will turn us into a clear number one in the East, or even in the division. We match up well with the Bulls, but Cleveland, if Love comes, will cause us all sorts of trouble.

I too am quietly confident, but it does require work. Let's see how Vogel has developed this off season, I hope he has reflected on what went wrong and worked out the kinks.
Vogel is Dutch for Bird.

Its a good narrative to want to believe that the team is or will be better. A lot has to work out correctly. And as much as a few of you want to believe things without a doubt will be better without Lance (I understand); the reality is that we have guys that in some ways have shrunk in big/key moments. Lance was not one of those guys. Late in games when the drama unfolded; if Paul didnt have it going; Lance was reliable most of the time to get everyone going or take over if necessary. Remember he closed out the Knicks in Game 6 when it looked like Indy was going to NY for a game 7. I can bring up plenty of other moments when Lance was the reason for a big win. His fearless attitude will be missed. Hill plays scared or timid sometimes. Now with more responsibilities will he step up to the plate? As a fan im concerned about that one variable. But im optimistic because I believe Paul will take another step in his development.

You make some valid points. But, I think its also worth noting that Lance pretty much disappeared during the Atlanta and Washington series this past year. FWIW I think the most consistent big moment guys have been Paul George and David West. Whether that's enough moving forward is certainly a valid question. I agree that in the big moment George Hill often wilts. I've never researched it, but it seems George Hill goes from an 80% FT shooter to a 50% shooter if that in truly big moments.

The new path to playoff success goes through Chicago and Cleveland now. For George Hill that means matchups with Rose and Irving. He held his own with John Wall I thought.

I honestly think this team CAN be better than last year's team. Lance's departure, to me, would put things in order. Roles will be much defined. I am feeling this would be Paul George's biggest year thus far, as he will have the sole franchise player role in this team. Hibbert will now get set plays on the post. Same goes for West, who's a monster at the post. George Hill will need to step up, but I am optimistic he'll be back to decent averages when the year ends, if not better. I am rooting for Stuckey to start games as he can get some plays going, and is closer to Lance's style of play than Miles. A big difference this year would be our reinforcement of reliable outside shooters.

I agree we will battle Chicago and Cleveland for the top spot in the East now. But among these three teams, the Pacers are the most intact, familiarity would be of great use.

Do a Spurs 1998... tank!!
2015-2016 go for gold!

I mean, running a team with Hibbert, West, Stuckey, Hill etc wont get anywhere near contendership.
If Pacers kept Turner and Stephenson... playoffs is a possibility but that obviously didnt happen.
