Is Vogel a top 10 coach right now?

Post#1 » by Fan Since 87 » Sat Aug 2, 2014 11:47 pm

(Bulls fan)

I say he is easily. But I am curious what you guys think people will say about him after this season is over?

Will he be an even better coach for rallying the troops?

Will there be calls for his job?

Best of luck to PG24. Get back ASAP and be 100%.

No chance he loses his job after this coming season cause Larry isn't dumb an realizes that this season will probably be very bad. Losing your best player is vogels fault an the pacers just don't have the talent on the roster to fill that void.

Clearly better NBA coaches?

Popovich.
Carlisle.
Rivers.
Thibodeau.

I'd then put Frank in the neighborhood with guys like Hollins, SVG, Spoelstra, Brooks, Saunders, etc.

I'd say top 10. But, it would also have to be accepted that the coaching list lately has seen a ton of turnover.

Hey guys, I'm new to the board and figure I have to start posting sometime.

I honestly don't know where Vogel sits right now. Defensively, I think he is a top-10 coach & I think he has good relationships with his players. Offensively…not so good.

I will be interested to see what kind of a coach Spolestra is without James.

I also think Doc Rivers is a bit overrated. He has the good name recognition, but how good is he with X's & O's. Granted, I didn't follow the Celtics or watch the Clippers so I don't really have an informed opinion about him, kind of just a gut feeling.

I agree about Doc Rivers. He's a good coach, do not get me wrong. But he is outside my top-3 (maybe top-5).

He needs superstars (multiple) to succeed. To me, he underachieved in Boston by only winning one chip.

Also Bulls fan...

Condolences on PG. Truly hope he comes back better than ever.

I love Frank Vogel. While I don't get to see him coach on a regular basis, he seems to have a great passion and temperament. Getting you guys back to the ECF after the issues of the second half was a great accomplishment. If he ever is available, I'd be happy to have him on our staff. If he can get the Pacers to the playoffs this year, it'll be a terrific coaching job.

Please tell OKC fans this. A group want Brooks fired already, most just want an offensive assistant. I think the same would do wonders for Vogel, and this list is close to how I see it (I don't even think Rivers is clearly better).

I'd say Rivers' value lies mostly in his ability to manage egos as a coach. Brooks is a good coach. If he gets let go there, he'll have teams quickly waiting to snap him up.
