Am I crazy? Bargnani...
Feel free to tell me I have completely lost the plot, in fact, temp-ban me for being insane.
BUT, it just struck me that Bargnani's stock will be so low right now that he could well be tempted on a relatively cheap contract next year. Perhaps MLE level? If that is the case, in my opinion, he could well be an interesting addition to our line-up. Call him whatever you want on defense, offensively he still has a lot to offer and he could play the 4 next to Hibbert...
So, go ahead, kill me...

He'd have to be really cheap for me to consider him. Like, BAE level. $2m or so. Not only is he an abhorrent defender, he's also an awful rebounder.

Re: Am I crazy? Bargnani...
I think the problem with Bargnani is that he was resigned for ridiculous money in Toronto, it was a completely unrealistic contract for what is effectively a good solid scorer, this made him sulk (and some injuries) and going to New York was probably the worst move for him because it just increased the fact that he was being overpaid.
Once you strip all that away I think he is not at all bad. In a weird way he is, to me, under-rated. Not financially, but in terms of appreciation - due to his daft contract.
Mahinmi is on 4 million, I'd rather have Bargnani on the team for that sort of money.
Carry on killing me though, I am not sure myself, just thought I'd float it here.
PS like the comment brutalitops, except for the dislike bit

Re: Am I crazy? Bargnani...
I'll be shocked if he gets more than a vet min contract. Outside of his suckiness, laziness, poor attitude, and poor play, he's been consistently injured as well.
He has talent and may have done better if he wasn't the first pick and dropped the stretch big crap since he had some decent numbers protecting the rim early on and has a solid base. Either way I want nothing to do with him, he could easily be a Bynum type issue for any team. Guys like him bring teams down.

What on earth... When I posted the server hang, I got a SQL error and now it has been copied four times? I suppose clicking the button numerous times didn't help... Sorry!

Wish, I'd disagree heavily. Mahinmi's a top notch backup 5. Bargs is a mid-tier stretch 4 off the bench that has to be hidden defensively, rebounding, and some ball handling. He's a bench shooter that can't do much else. Honestly, he's Chris Copeland, but less effort. Copeland got $3m. I'd be shocked if Bargs got that much.

We will see, I think he can blossom still, when in the right environment with the right sort of coaching. Look at a guy like Josh Smith, he isn't dynamite, but all of a sudden he is far more useful than he ever was at the Pistons, same goes for Gay going to the Kings. I'm not saying he is of a similar calibre to those two, but he is better than most people give him credit for.
However, if I am mad (which I am) than he'll probably end up in Europe or China next year and we'll never know

Thanks for deleting those duplicates by the way!

Re: Am I crazy? Bargnani...
Randomly stumbled across this.. don't get to watch the Pacers a whole lot, but I have watched a lot of Bargnani.
Obviously, you'd want him for cheap... but you could get lucky with him working if he comes in with the right mindset and gets over his injury woes. The guy can play man to man defense fairly well.. his issue is help defense. With a strong defensive team surrounding him, it could actually work... and by work, I mean he could be a slight positive, he clearly wouldn't be a savior or anything.
The main concern is whether he even wants to play basketball.. he hasn't looked like it in a while

Re: Am I crazy? Bargnani...
Thanks Pacers70 - got an and-1 for that
Thanks for stumbling across
His motivation, I agree, is very much in doubt. When Bargnani was 'the man' in Toronto I watched quite a bit of him so I know he CAN play and I know that he just doesn't bother that much any more. What he needs is a situation where he won't be judged on the fact he got overpaid, but indeed on his actual performances.
It is clear from this thread that it will take a lot for NBA fans to get over that hump, he simply has a dreadful reputation.

Re: Am I crazy? Bargnani...
I think he'd take better money in Europe before small money in the NBA.
He's had a lot of issues lately:
- never-ending stream of injuries (and doubts about whether he takes care of himself enough to prevent them/rehab quickly)
- 3 point shooting disappeared 4 years ago, and he was only average before that, but he still takes them and people think he's a floor spacer
Add that to him being a horrible team defender, lazy and bad rebounder, unwilling (though capable) passer, and only good at playing man defense at the 5, but doesn't do anything else you'd want out of a 5... he's probably playing himself out of the league.
Masai getting multiple picks for him on the way out was very well received in Raptor-land.

Raptors Season Ticketholder since the 2000 playoffs, through all the lows... build to the championship high... to Tampa and back again.

Yeah if we got Stucky and Allen for league min I'd expect to get Bargnani for no more than that or 1.5 million. He stinks.
