Pistons Trade for Illyasova

Post#1 » by SuperReggie31 » Thu Jun 11, 2015 7:36 pm

While not earth-shattering news, the Pistons traded for Ersan Illyasova from the Milwaukee Bucks.

Pistons Trade:

Caron Butler
Shawne Williams

Pistons Receive:

Ersan Illyasova

Good move for the Pistons. They now have a frontline of Monroe, Illyasova, and Drummond which could be a scary combination and a tighter race for the Central next year. They have a hole at small forward and I can see them taking someone like Stanley Johnson in the draft.

Thoughts?

Not a bad move for the Pistons. Ilyasova can spread the floor from the four spot, similar to the way Ryan Anderson did for SVG when he was coaching the Magic. He's also had a few seasons where he was a solid rebounder as well, his high of 8.8 rebounds per game coming in the 2011-12 season. Should give Drummond more room to operate in the post.

It's hard to see Monroe return as he's unrestricted this summer. I think he's ready to get out, but he's also tough to get a read on.

Either way, good deal for Detroit if they were looking to just keep Jackson and try to keep Monroe this summer and not hit free agency too hard. Good deal for Milwaukee if they were looking to get out of his deal now. Both deals they get are completely non-guaranteed, so they'll have $20-25m in cap space to spend this summer; $4m more if Dudley opts out.

I think this move was preemptive on the fact that Monroe will be leaving. He and Drummond did not mesh well as both needed a block to operate on. They will pursue another 4 and a cheap great shooting 3, I think.

Protection for Monroe leaving and a salary dump. The interesting thing from a Pacers point of view is that Shawne is still playing.
