Would the Pacers trade Paul George for the #1 pick?
Celtics fan here. I come in peace.
It's hard to gauge what Larry is doing, is he just keeping cap room open to get more stars around George? or his he waiting to see if George's leg is okay?
I loved the Miles Turner pick and he looks fantastic.
Anyway, if the Nets are bad enough to give the Celtics the #1 pick, is there any chance the Pacers would trade it for PG?
So you build around something like Simmons+Turner+Glen Robinson (someone closer to Turner's age as the main building block).
Our GM has a penchant for preferring established players over draft picks.
If absolutely not, then no problem, just curious what Pacers fans thought.

One day Marcus Smart will be defensive player of the year, mark my words.

Given his initial recovery, work in the offseason, preseason form, and now these last two games, I think everyone in Pacerland is confident PG is back to top-10 form.
I think our front office also has a penchant for established players over draft picks, though, so I don't possibly think this will be entertained until the season is over.

Re: Would the Pacers trade Paul George for the #1 pick?
Severely doubt it. Since the mid 80's the Pacers have only won less than 40% of their games once(picked #10 and got Paul, pretty sure that's our highest pick in that time). It's highly against the owners principals to tank.
In that time we built around Reggie Miller and were contenders. Then around Jermaine O'Neal and were contenders, until Artest ruined that. Then most recently with the group with Paul/West/Hibbert. All done without picking at the top of the draft, and very few losing years.
I see no way the Pacers trade the guy who was an All NBA 3rd teamer, who I think is better than he was before the injury.... For a CHANCE at getting a guy that good back one day.

Short and sweet. PG is not going anywhere!

PG won't be traded, but in a hypothetical scenario where he'd be available, I think the front office would highly prioritize the major piece coming back being more known than a pick. We rarely trade for picks since Bird has been here and sometimes even to a fault. If whoever is the top pick next year and he comes out looking like Towns, then that obviously changes things a bit.

No, can't see that happening either. I don't like Kyrie's injury history nor have I seen him prove he can be "the guy" on a successful team. I realize PG has some things to prove but there is no denying there are only a handful of guys who impact the game at both ends of the floor the way he does.

Would you have taken a #1 pick for Larry Bird in his prime?

No. Not even close. Remember, Kevin Love, when he was at one of his lowest valuations since he was expiring, technically got two #1 overall picks, and a future 1st from Miami (that was sent to Philly for Thad Young). We'd want a ton more than that, since Paul George is signed long-term, and we have no reason to deal him. Honestly, even with all the picks that Boston owns factored in, I don't see any amount of value that Boston has that can net Paul George. He's happy, healthy, young, explosive, a tremendous player, and signed long-term. That's the kind of guy that just isn't traded, and especially not without an metric ton of value coming back.

Re: Would the Pacers trade Paul George for the #1 pick?
Hey Pacers fans, i've came acrros this trade situation
http://en.yibada.com/articles/82175/20151106/nba-trade-scenario-paul-george-orlando-magic-florida-team-offer.htm
what do think about it? Are you familiar with the magic?
Oladipo seems to develop into a top 10 sg (if he's not already there), Harris can provide insta score with efficiency and good numbers on rebounds, Aaron Gordon is a beast (i would preffer not to trade him) but he's just a rising promise atm, the magic owns next year's draft pick and a future LAL pick. Both could be lottery prolly.
If i were the magic i would ship asap 2 of those 3 players plus the pick for PG, he's one of my favorite players and could fit the Magic so perfectly.
Just tell me what you think, not sure if this is the best option for the Pacers, but if Larry decides to rebuild, this could interest him imo.
Peace

Re: Would the Pacers trade Paul George for the #1 pick?
Others may disagree but this doesn't work for me. I will say this is pretty fair from a value perspective. But, PG has a chance to be the best player Indiana has ever had. At some point he could be a top 5 player in the League. A small market team can't allow that opportunity to get away.
There are those that think you have to tear it down to have a true contender but, the Indiana franchise has never approached it that way. And, on the rebuild front I really like Miles Turner. In fact I like him better than anyone on the Orlando roster. Bottom line Indiana has two more years to assemble a team that will be difficult for PG to leave. Miles Turner was a big step in that direction. for now I'd take my chances.

Meh. Pretty circular article, as the author cites talk on the "Real GM forums", of which, he probably means the one thread on the trade forums here. As was mentioned there but that the author neglects, Paul George has come around to understanding and respecting the 4 position, so there's no reason to trade him. Otherwise, the whole concept of trading Paul George for 2 non-star, but really good pieces in Harris/Oladipo/Gordon just isn't appealing. We'd be building a team full of Monta Ellis/George Hill level players, when really, you need a Paul George level player, a couple Monta Ellis/George Hill level players, and go from there.

No we don't want to trade PG unless you just get crazy and charge me up, IDK what it would take but it's a lot.

Re: Would the Pacers trade Paul George for the #1 pick?
at least that year's draftee should have andrew wiggins or anthony davis like potential. it is very clear paul george makes the difference. This season, indiana starts with 2 of last year's bench players. ian mahinmi and cj miles (he plays in george's original position). and he plays in totally different position. under these circumstances pacers have been doing quite well so far.
paul george is the guy to be built a contender team around..
