Looking ahead - Summer of '16

Post#1 » by Grang33r » Sat Feb 20, 2016 4:38 pm

It's cold outside (depends where you are), no Pacers game til Sunday night, and just killing time before tonights Clippers/GSW game on ABC tips-off. So i'm kinda bored and still raving about last nights win. That said, i was thinking of a fun topic.

Summer of 2016.

With a proven super star in PG, and the emergence of Myles Turner, i was wondering if the Pacers could join in on the fun for free agents? Who should they target? Who do you want them to go after?

I don't expect us to get any big names and I hope to god we don't fall into the category of overpaying for midtier guys since there's too much money out there.

Obviously Horford would be perfect.

I'd love to try and get Gasol on a 2 year deal. Would fit in perfectly with our other contracts and I think he could take us to the top of the conference with Turner's development.

Would also like Bird to go after Joe Johnson as a bench shooter/facilitator.

I think an interesting move would be to try and nab Batum, bring Ellis off the bench, and move Stuckey.

Honestly I don't really think we should go after young guys. Those guys will be getting overpaid the most based on potential (guys like Fournier will get a near max) and could become horrid contracts.

I also think a lot of our moves will depend on how what our young guys show the rest of the way. We may not need to look at a backup PG or backup wing if Young and GRIII look like they will be able to hold it down next season.

I would love Ellis on the bench. To be our Jamal Crawford would be the perfect scenario.

I'd resign Mahinmi, probably resign Jordan Hill for the right price and add a consistent shooting wing so Stuckey can be a trade chip.

I think this is Monta's highest and best use on a good team. To make this move we need some form of upgrade at one of the guard positions. I know almost no one likes this idea but I'd like to see us go after Mike Conley move George Hill on a more full time basis to the 2 and either move Monta or make him into a 6th man.

I disagree. I think most EVERYONE here would be excited to make that move. That is one of the few "move George Hill to the 2 permanently options" that makes sense.

Yeah there's really not a more perfect offseason move we could conceivably make. I personally would prefer Conley to Horford if we had a choice, but either of those guys though would make a huge impact. Conley would be our biggest FA acquisition ever (at least that I can think of). And I think Conley would be huge for Turner's development between getting him the ball in the right spots and his smart perimeter defense.

One thing to note with Conley that could help our chances is he doesn't have one of the big agents. His agent is his dad (whose only other NBA client is Mcroberts). So there shouldn't be any big market push like a Fegan and who knows, his dad could push him to come home. I still think he resigns, but you never know.
