FA idea: Ben McLemore

Post#1 » by Grang33r » Thu Jun 29, 2017 5:24 am

The Kings did not extend a qualifying offer today to the 2013 7th pick Ben McLemore. Should the Pacers sign him and give him a second chance at a NBA life?

His stats last season:

61 games (26 starts)
8 points/game
2 rebounds/game
43% field goal %
38% three-point %

Profile:

Shooting guard
6'5
24 years old
St Louis, Missouri

Unless we are getting him for absurdly cheap, don't think it's worth it. Very rarely do teams not extend qualifying offers, and when it happens it's generally for very good reasons.

it all depends upon what we get for PG. if we get a Bradley or a Crowder, I'd pass. if we don't get a wing, I'd consider it.

If we need a warm body, sure. But he's not good.

I am not exactly intimately familiar with his game, but I will say this, one thing we've been able to do is player development. If somebody in our organization thinks there is something in him that wasn't able to show in Sacramento because of the environment or coaching situation there, then I say sure go for it.

Good organizations seem to be the ones able to take a questionable player in a bad situation, roll the dice on him, and make him look so productive that it seems like everyone should have been able to see it in him all along. McLemore may or may not be that player, but looking for talent in places others may have missed is one thing we definitely need to be doing right now imo.

This is almost exclusive to players we personally drafted.

This guy smells like Gerald Green.
