I actually liked the guy a lot personally . . . . even if I thought he was the wrong fit for the Pacers at the wrong time, that he wasn't very good at all last year, and that he was used in the wrong ways for most of his time here. Still, I liked his attitude and thought he did relatively well that first year. Seemed to me like he was much more of a locker room leader that year than he gets credit for.
He's only 31. I haven't heard of a single rumor or conversation about him going anywhere. I suspected he might still get a backup role somewhere. Did he really fall that far off the cliff?

Yes.
But not before running in place like a cartoon character off of said cliff before looking down, then at us through the camera, before holding up a sign that said, "Monta have it all" before plummeting into the abyss.

Re: No One Interested in Monta Ellis
I'm not surprised there is no market for him. Smart GM's saw his failings two years ago.
In year one for much of the year Pacers used him as the primary ball handler with George Hill generally playing off the ball. Since Hill can be effective off the ball there was some logic in this. Problem that I saw with this approach Monta is too loose with the ball. Coupled with PG's tendency to turn the ball over the Pacers biggest problem on offense last year turnovers. In the Toronto series I thought the Pacers played better than their regular season record would indicate. Primary reasons PG stepped up his game and George Hill took back primary ball handling responsibilities. Predictably Monta was ineffective.
Bringing in Jeff Teague took Monta out of his dream role. I think he always saw himself as a D-Wade/James Harden type. Problem with this, Monta has essentially none of the skill sets required for today's wing player (3 point shooting skill, ability to guard other wing players). At the end he looked overwhelmed. No shot, his ability to get past his defender-gone. He is that player who relied on his athleticism to accomplish basically everything he did on the floor. And, now he has lost a step. Some guys develop skills that compensate for this loss. Monta didn't.
He might be ok in the locker room (I'm skeptical of this too). But, if you are hoping for production he brings nothing.

Could be that he wants more of a role or more money than teams are willing to offer now. I think he's firmly in the group of vets who may be best waiting things out and seeing if they can catch on with a team later in the season. Sometimes it works out, sometimes you're Carlos Boozer.
