Jeff Teague

Hi Pacers fans, Wolves fan here. I know he only played with you guys for a year and I could probably get some information from Hawks fans but I thought playing alongside George/Turner/Jefferson might be a better comp than playing in the Hawks system with no wings.

PG was a fairly ball dominant wing who could create and make plays for others just like JB (PG being good off ball too), how did Teague fit with that playing off ball? How was Teague at being able to initiate the offense, feed the post, or find guys in a good spot? How was he defensively, both man to man and in the team concept? Anybody can look at numbers and try to paint the picture but I know many of you watched almost every game he played last year.

Basically for the wolves JB is going to initiate the offense quite a bit which will be a departure from the Rubio centric offense we have ran for 5-6 years. Wiggins is going to get plenty of ISO chances, Towns is going to get plenty of post ups, and we really need somebody who can get them the ball in their spots and make teams pay for trying to double on them. Also how is he in PnR, as he is going to have a fantastic option in Towns for both rolling or popping and im hoping he should be able to take advantage of the attention Towns will take.

PS, I really wish the wolves would have offered Lance a deal when they had him on two 10 days, would have been a steal but he got injured unfortunately for us.

Jeff Teague, all in all, did really well offensively but never really found chemistry with the team.

When we had CJ Miles instead of Monta Ellis in the starting unit, we were able to do really great things when surrounding Jeff Teague with spacing. I think the Wolves will need to figure out a way to make it work around Teague with two ~35% shooters instead of ~40% shooters around him. I actually am really looking forward to the Wolves this year, but I have concerns about the spacing.

Teague was good for us for the most part. If we had played through him more his assist numbers wouldve been higher. He had to compete with Ellis, Paul and later Lance for touches as the playmaker. He was solid knocking down threes when left open. I think Indy's record wouldve been better had Lance been the two earlier in the year versus Ellis. The undersized backcourt made it tougher for Indy to defend other teams. Jimmy being an excellent defender should make Minny a significant better team and Teague will play well with him. I know its a little off topic but if Wiggins in year three came come into his own defensively and become more consistent offensively Minny is going to be dangerous. Between Jimmy Butler, Gorgui Dieng and Taj Gibson I expect your team to be very tough defensively. If Wiggins can reach his potential defensively it can be scary good. Teague is a good enough player to keep other point guards honest. No one will sag off on him I assure you that.

There wasn't enough ball for Indiana last year IMO, Teague, Lance, Monta, PG, Young Turner, Miles were our main scorers and they all are either finishers or guys that need the ball in their hands. I could potentially see this being an issue for you guys aswell, but it really depends on how the team gels.

Overall Teague is a very talented guard offensively who can make open 3's and get to the rim, but he needs space to be effective in any offense.

JT is a good player he might be a bit over paid but the term of the contract is team friendly. If Butler handles the ball most of the time then Teagues numbers will appear to be down. Keep an eye on his 3 point shooting, he's not bad at that, he's quick and a decent passer.

If Butler is handling the ball the majority of the time then I'd hope Thibs takes Teague out early to get him time to handle it more. He's much better with the ball in his hands and his three point shot was streaky for us, though overall was pretty good. The one problem I see is that Crawford is the only real reliable bench guard on the roster from what I can tell (though Jones could prove to be) and he's not that great off ball either.

For the same amount of money, I don't understand why the Wolves didn't grab George Hill instead. His shooting and defense would have fit better on their roster imo.

I'm kind of tired of comparing the two though.

I find it interesting that we now have both your starting (Teague) and backup (Brooks) point guards from last year.
