What about Rubio... he is much better defender and passer than DC... and Utah will soon go in rebuilding, and we can offer something for Rubio... DC and Big Al or 2nd pick... something... Rubio would be great here...

Isiah Thomas is by no means a great PG, please don't be mistaken. Only reason why he looked good last season was because he played for the Celtics.

The proper evaluation of him is that he's really around the level of the likes of Goran Dragic, Eric Bledsoe, Jeff Teague, Jrue Holiday, and so on. A solid PG definitely, but by no means a great one. I think Pacers management would know better, but I'd really hate to see Thomas signing a huge contract with the Pacers next season.

I don't think the conference finals is a realistic goal for this year. I expect a younger point guard than DC will be starting when it is, but I don't think his play is at all a problem now.

The player who is going to get us somewhere is Victor. I'd try him at point before I threw a max contract at free agents or traded one of our other starters.

When his shots aren't dropping, he has little else to offer to help us win basketball games.

We need 3 to start in his place or find an upgrade somewhere else.

As a bench player, Bojan has his place on every contender. But he wanted to try to start games and that is why the Pacers were able to sign him. They gave him that opportunity that other teams didn't want to give him. Rightfully so.

That's not true. Even when his shot isn't falling he will drive to the basket and get his points that way. He is very smart offensively and he will keep the ball moving. Yeah, he had a bad game against Toronto but that doesn't mean anything.

Now, about the argument about our PGs. Look, DC is clearly a stop-gap option and he has performed admirably so far. Our core (Oladipo, Turner, Sabonis) is way younger than him so we definitely need a new option at PG when this core is ready to contend. We're still a couple years away from that. I don't think that we need a top PG. In this new era of positionless NBA, top PGs are usually stopped by top wings in the playoffs due to the size advantage that the wings have. What we need is a stopper at PG. Someone that will stop dribble penetration. This is our biggest defensive issue so far. Our perimeter defense allows a metric ton of dribble penetration and our bigs are being put in a tough spot all the time.

Yes, he is smart and does a lot of smart things, but it doesn't give him assists or rebounds. His usage rate isn't that low on the Pacers, but his rebound and assist rate are. Add to that his bad defense and you just don't have a player who adds enough besides scoring to be a starter. When he doesn't score, it becomes even more obvious that he has little else to contribute besides scoring.
Taking smart decisions and committing few turnovers, yes, but that ain't enough for me to see a future starter in him.

I want Joseph as our starter. The point guard position is too much decision making to hand it over to early twenties old players.

no one is arguing that DC is the best future starter.

First paragraph is about Bojan, second paragraph about our PGs. :)

I copied your layout, but I can see now why it is confusing. My paragraphs have too much chemistry together

Uf... Bojan is problem couse there is a opinion that he is bad defender... and no one has noticed tha he played good defense on De Rozean, Harden... even it wasn't his role to defend them... without Bojans points we cant win this year... on the other side, DC is average scorer, average asisst and average defender... and some of you guys think that DC should stay next yera as a starter, and that we need to move Bojan on the bench... thats ridiculous...

Ah, I see. Bojan is quite consistent when it comes to adding scoring. He has only scored below 10 points 5 times this season. So, he will usually score enough to be fine for us offensively and as I said he moves the ball well and can run the PnR successfully with Sabonis.

Defensively, he's obviously kinda weak but he has had some good games. He was very good against DeRozan in Indiana, for example. The thing with Bojan defensively is that despite not being a good athlete he knows where to be on that end. He won't beat himself by being out of position.

Bojan has actually been pretty surprising on the defensive end. That said, he still hasn't been some kind of lock down guy. I just like to see more defense from the small forward position because so many of the elite offense talents in the NBA are wings. And for so many years we have had great defenders at small forward that it just seems so different to me by comparison.

True, his consistency is why I was glad to get him to replace CJ Miles. As a bench player he has a place on every contending team.

He just saw an opportunity with the Pacers to start games because efficient offensive players usually sign elsewhere than Indiana. :)

True but we shouldn't expect him to be some kind of lock down guy. Losing a defender like Paul George has definitely hurt us but our defensive issues aren't really on the wings. It's our guards.

Bojan is 28. DC and Thad are 29. What's our timeline to reach the ECF? I think it is safe to say all will be 30 by then. Some players do fine at that age, others do not. That LeBron is still the best player in the league at his age is unusual.

by contrast, Victor is 25. GRob is 23. Turner, Sabonis, and Sumner are 21. Leaf is 20. Ike is 19.

to me, it is a waste of time to obsess over whether Bojan, DC, and Thad are good enough. They are all good enough for now, and they all will be gone or moved to the bench when our young core is at its peak.

Do you think moving Joseph to the starting lineup would help with this?

What kind of money do you think he is going to command this off-season?

Moving CoJo to the starting lineup would help our perimeter defense but it wouldn't fix everything. Victor also allows a lot of dribble penetration.

I don't know what kind of money CoJo will command this off-season but it's possible that it's more than we can afford.

Yup. Victor, Turner and Sabonis is the clear cut core that I'm seeing right now. GR3 could also be a part of our core but we need to see how he looks when he returns from his injury. TJ Leaf also looks like a solid prospect and I want to see more out of Ike, Sumner and Poythress.

The rest, as you said, are great veterans to have right now but they aren't going to be here when our core is ready to go deep in the playoffs in 2-3 seasons.
