Pacers convert Poythress to a standard contract

Post#1 » by boomershadow » Thu Dec 28, 2017 8:46 pm

I've been looking around and haven't seen much regarding the details: number of years, guaranteed or not, etc.

It seems the logical thing to do if he is getting playing time over some of the guys already on the main roster.

Poythress fills roster

Post#2 » by Wizop » Thu Dec 28, 2017 8:50 pm

Pacers have signed Poythress to the regular roster so now we have 15 and an opening for another 2-way deal. I've liked what he's shown recently when he's earned some playing time.

I have some other thoughts, but I'll post them in the trade thread so this one can stay about Alex.

I heard that it's a 2 year contract. It's well deserved, imo.

Well, I wanted the Pacers to get another 3/4 combo forward. Guess I got my request

I like it. Dude's worked his ass off through the D-League and lots of DNPs and he's finally getting a shot. Love his hustle, hope he continues to see the floor.

Nice to have a little insurance when the bigs get into foul trouble.

I hope this guy gets some run. He appeared to be better equipped to deal with Tobias Harris than Thad Young defensively. If it turns out Poythress can be more or as effective defending the tweeter forwards of the league the idea of trading Young gets new legs IMO.

I had another thought. Wonder if this means Wilkins is gone now. Wilkins' contract becomes guaranteed on Jan 10 (when all contracts become guaranteed). Wilkins hasn't played in a while, and we now have Poythress to fill the spot for the rest of the season. I would think a free roster spot is more valuable than keeping Wilkins with the trade deadline coming up.

I sure hope we can do better than Poythress and Young to defend tweeters, but for now he will do :)

Wilkins hasn't hit a 3 pointer in almost 100 minutes. (0-9) He got us fooled in preseason, but it's time to say bye bye fooler :)

Wilkins value is as a mentor. an active GR3 probably ends any need for him to play. will GR3 be ready before the guarantee date??? time will tell.
