Granger was done. He was never to return to his previous form.

Obviously, but that's not the issue. It is a matter of chemistry in both cases.

And Evan Turner was Evan Turner. I'd take the husk of Danny Granger over prime Evan Turner.

Kevin mentioned they are having $20M cap space. It seems Lance's option would not be picked up.

If Thad opts out and Al is waived, it'd be about $20, right? Cutting Bogey and DC could also do it. There are a lot of ways to make cap space this summer. Lance's team option is certainly one of those ways, but I'd be a little surprised.

by itself, Lance's team option isn't close to enough to get from 8 to 20. I think he was quoting the cap number we'd have if Thad opted out not considering cap holds.

Correct. Just Rhad opting out and “ignoring” our cap holds puts us to $20m.

This would just be a bad decision.

How about declining his TO, thus creating 20M cap space. Use the cap space to get Otto Porter, Aaron Gordon or Tobias Harris.
Then resign Lance using MLE

To get cap space, the Pacers would have to renounce the MLE.

The room exception ($4m+) would be available though after using cap space, so maybe your idea can work.

The more important issue though, as already pointed out several times, is that the Pacers can't get to $20m cap space by declining Lance's TO alone. Bigger moves (like Thad declining his PO and then Pacers renouncing his rights) need to happen first. There's a small window where Lance's $4m is the difference between signing a FA or not, but the possibility of this seems slim.

Btw Porter and Harris aren't free agents. Cap space can be part of the deal for them of course, but we'd need to offer more than that I think.

Washington needs Cap Space and I think Oubre and the rookie Troy Brown can cover the SF position for them. Oubre will be a Free Agent next year and they are already a tax team.

As for Tobias Harris, Clippers might already start their rebuild and a 1st round pick would only help.

as much as I like Harris, I'd rather keep Thad, develop Leaf, and sign a wing.

EDIT: RealGM free agent podcast says we kept Bogie but not Lance and Thad opted out. I have no idea whether that was based on rumors, or was just a simplifying assumption for their discussions. (double posting in relevant threads).

Plus, we might be after Will Barton or Tyreke Evans

Props to you. Looks like you were on the ball on this one.
