Tough losses... bad news/good news

Post#1 » by Lazlo4D » Wed Mar 20, 2019 6:25 pm

Tough to watch the Pacers come up just short these last several games. Was hoping that they could hold on to the 4th seed but the schedule may be stacked too much against them. Though Boston is helping by losing too.

But some good news is they can't really drop further than #5 seed and by losing just a couple more games they could end up 10 spots higher in the NBA Draft. A week ago they would have drafted # 26 or # 27. They are #23 now and just 2 games in the loss column from drafting in the mid -teens (#18). Everybody behind them except Boston is in the West.

Maybe not much comfort now but come June, drafting in the mid-teens is a huge difference than drafting late twenties. Pacers have gotten some good players that dropped to them in the mid-teens.

It is also more enticing in a trade if we should want to go that route.

Yeah and our chances of beating Boston don't really improve all that much with HCA imo. It would be a nice story and nice for Simon to have the extra home game, but either we beat them or we don't and we'll likely have to win in Boston either way.

actually we haven't clinched even 8 yet let along 5. Here are magic numbers

Orlando 1
Miami 1 (a quirk. formula says 2 but since they have to play Orlando and one of them must lose it's 1 not counting that game)
Brooklyn 2
Detroit 5
Boston 11

We play Detroit twice more. Should we win both games the number would drop to 1 and since we'd then own the tiebreaker it would actually be 0. should we split, the tiebreaker would be more complicated. should we lose both, it won't be good.

we also play Boston twice. those games should be critical for 4th but if we keep losing they won't matter much.

we're in the playoffs. Heat loss puts us in. thought Orlando was also going to lose but they had double digit comeback and won in ot.

edit. just noticed Detroit has Portland and GS this weekend. hope they do no better than we did

Edit2 Boston lost in Charlotte so we still have a 1 game lead.

Well I wish I could have bet on this.

One game left in the season, locked into 5th seed, and tied for the 18th pick in the draft. About 10 spots higher in the draft than 3 weeks ago. This draft looks like you could draft a prospect anywhere and they could develop very good player, with patience. Wouldn't mind get a few more picks, even second rounders, there are shooters in this draft.

Sadly the Pacer's current ceiling probably won't get them past the Celtics in Round 1. But the Celtics have been wildly up and down all season, as Boston is a mental mess. So after their recent success, beating the Pacers twice, their ego's are do for a mental meltdown. Five guys in green wanting hog the ball and be the hero. Love for it to be Game 1.

I agree that our chemistry and toughness are way better than Boston's, but we also have to be able to put the ball in the hole to even think about winning.

We have zero chances against Boston... they just have better players... you cant play against them with DC, COJO and poor Wes outside...

If you have a healthy Victor Oladipo, you absolutely can. But, if we beat them, it would definitely be an upset with Oladipo out.
